How high do you have to jump to dunk a basketball?

I can jump high enough to hang off the rim. I wanna know how high above the rim do my fingers have to reach in order to dunk?|||Probably about 7 or 8 inches, it also depends on whether or not you can palm the ball. I can't palm a ball very well so when I used to do it I would have to go 2 handed which means you need to be able to jump higher.|||You have to get your whole hand above the rim, but that's not all. You also have to be able to control the ball to finish the dunk, you lose control of the ball but still grab onto the rim and still make the shot, it's not a dunk.

From the ages of 16-18, I was able to get my whole hand above the rim but couldn't dunk because I couldn't control the ball once I got up there. I only dunked once in my life.

I was about 5'11 at 16 and 6'1 at 18.|||depends on how tall you are. Plyometric Exersizes are the best way to jump. im 5'9 and can dunk a 10ft Rim! soo just till your wrist can pass it. and you can hold a ball.|||You will have to be able to get your entire hand above the rim before you can dunk the basketball

*Best Answer*|||At least to your wrist.

How will i be in the future in high jump and triple jump?

I am a sophmoore right now, and i just turned 16 years old and im 6'1, 150lbs. As a freshman my best was 5'4 on high jump, and 35'7 on triple jump. now my PR is 5'10 on high jump, and 37 ft for triple jump. what do u think ill be by this track season or my senior year|||well i dont know about high jump because i dont do it, but triple jump im guessing youll probably be in the 40s. it depends on how hard you work on it though. i also do triple jump and long jump and got a lot better at the end of the season after i trained a lot.

Can javelin shoes be used as high jump shoes?

I throw the javelin in high school and I also do high jump. Which shoe would be best fitted for the both because right now I am using my old football cleats for javelin, and mid distance spikes for high jump. Which shoe should i get because they both have spikes in the heel part of the shoe.|||If you are going to buy one pair of shoes then get the high jump shoes and throw with them, rather than trying to jump in javelin shoes.

How high should I jump while shooting a basketball?

I'm a spot on shooter, but I don't jump too high when I shoot at all, maybe a few inches off of the ground, which means my shot is usually a line drive (except for my 3's) When I try jumping higher I feel I over do it and it doesn't feel natural and it makes my shot off. Should I get used to jumping higher or stick with my spot on jumper even though I don't get too high?|||just practiceee shootingg at yuur highest vertical leap andd release it at the top it wont feel natural at first but oncee you get a natural feel for it then it could work andd it can expand really your offensive shooting gamee for ex like yuu can dribble and pull up in a defenders facee and with your vertical leap he wouldnt have time to really react to it all it is is repetiotion your just use to the way you shoot just work on it|||it depends on how tall you are, the best option would be to work on your vertical jump so your max jump is higher and your regular vertical jump increases, taht way you will be able to jump higher then you can now but just as easily so you can still concentrate on your shot. if youre having trouble shooting over defenders then definitely do this.|||just stick to your shot and your normal hieght with your shot

it depends on how your shot is like look at ray allens shot he gets a lot of air when he shoots

but then look at paul pierce or some other players and they dont get as much air|||all this means is you need more arc on your shot try to shoot higher in the air it might feel weird at first but you'll get use to it and then it will be natural

Any good high jump tips for a beginner?

So me and my track pal are doing the high jump event our first time ever during our first meet. we are both 5 ft 10 inches and i was wondering if there are any good tips. Does it matter how many strides you do before you approach the bar? And i am a righty but i belive my left leg is stronger so how should i jump off with my right or left leg?|||I am a righty and jump off of my left foot. coming from the right side and jumping off of your left food is most common, but just do whichever feels right its just a feel thing. My coach tells us to do 10 strides but every coach will tell you different. Usually the average is around 10 though. if you're coming from the right side when you run up, stand next to the mat at the point you want to jump at and take 4 normal walking steps forward(parallel to the mat). Then turn right and run for 10 steps. The point you land at should make it so you take 10 strides to reach the mat and jump.

How high should you jump when shooting a jump shot?

I was wondering do you have to jump high when shooting a jump shot? If you jump high, will your shot be more accurate? Because people tell me that I have to get further off of the ground to improve my shot. I know some people like Ray Allen jump really high, but i was watching some tapes of Larry Bird and he barely gets off the ground. So does it really matter?|||Definitely jump as high as you can naturally without over doing it while practicing. make it fell natural to jump with effort. A lot of shooters are lazy and it clearly affects their shooting.|||It depends on the player's strength to shoot. Some players jump during a jump shot because they don't want to be blocked by taller opponents and for more power. Others don't jump because they are already tall and strong, so they don't need to jump. As for accuracy, many people can hit shots without even jumping up (like free throws). So, it doesn't matter if you jump or not jump during a game, however, if you're facing tall players, I guess it's better to jump and not get blocked.|||I have always use 6 you know %26amp; it is so useful for myself you can use it too.

If it was good for you let me to know me,ok?|||jump high as you can so it is harder to block you.

How do I do the High Jump?

Im a distance runner in every season (XC, Indoor, Outdoor) and am good at that and decided to try a field event this season for Indoor. At my next meet Im trying the High Jump. Im a 6 ft 1' sophomore. Any tips? I understad the Fosburry Flop technique but thats about it.|||Learning how to high jump definitely takes some time. But the most important thing for a beginner to know is that the approach is the most important aspect of the high jump.

The approach is run in the shape of a "J". Depending on the length of the approach, you run and accelerate in straight line for a few steps, then begin to transition your approach to running a curve towards the bar. As you run the curve, each step is a little bit faster than the one before it. Right before you get to the bar you takeoff vertically. Driving your knee and arms up.

The approach puts you in the proper position and allows you to get up and clear the bar.

Developing a consistent approach is the most important aspect. You need to take off from the same spot, and takeoff the same way each and every time to be successful.

This is a really quick explanation of the approach. So here are two links that should help. The first link will give you a good overview of the high jump, and the second link will breakdown the approach.

Hope this helps.

Can you use track srinting shoes for high jump or would high jumping shoes be that much better what are the df?

Can you use track srinting shoes for high jump or would high jumping shoes be that much better what are the diffrences and advantages ?|||I highly recommend using shoes designed for the high jump. Unlike sprinting shoes, high jump shoes have spikes in the heel that prevent you from slipping when you run and takeoff. Also, sprint shoes are designed to have you run on your toes. High jump shoes have a flat sole that is designed so you can takeoff correctly.

High jumping in sprinting shoes would definitely increase your chances of injury.

If high jump shoes are too expensive, you can find an alternative and add what is called a J- heel. This is a velcro strap that straps around the shoe and places spikes on the heel. You can remove it easily if you are going to use those spikes for a different event.

Hope this helps.

Where can I practice HIGH JUMP in Edmonton?

I wish to work a bit on my track and field over the summer, but I cannot seem to find a high jump "practice area"... I live in Edmonton Alberta, and where can you go high jump? In the U of A? Please Help!

What is the record for high jump in girls age 14/15?

Please could somebody tell me what the record in high jump is for girls:

Age 11/12

Age 13/14

Age 14/15 - (This one is the highest priority)|||i do not know sorry but anyway i guess it is|||Well the ages for 'English Schools' would be either Under13, Under15 and Under17.

For U13 a good height would be about 1.25 although to get into a county team 1.40 would be a good height that you would be considered above average for a jumper.

For U15 a good height would be about 1.40 but a club member would be getting about 1.52.

When I was in year 10 (aged 15) I jumped 1.35 but needed 1.40 to get into the County Championships. Although I won the District Competition with my height.

I am now 16 and acheived 1.50 at District and was put though to the County Competition.

As High Jump is mainly a summer event, by the time next summer comes you would have grown in height causing your jump to increase. :)

How do i land a really high jump in skate 2?

on the mega compound there is a really high jump at the beginning, every time i land it i come off my board, this sucks. i want to know how i come over this rather irritating obstacle. PS%26gt; it says something about transition, what is this?|||The way you can land the tricks on the entrance to the mega ramp is to ensure that you land the trick early enough to move you character so that he is at the same angle as the ramp you are landing on. I couldn't touch the backboard until I started playing football. Then after a few months I was able to dunk with tennis balls. We did a lot of running and jumping in heavy gear so that helped out a lot. But since you can't run around wearing helmet and pads... the weights are your best choice.|||use a mini trampoline other that lower the rim|||There are a number of leg strengthening exercises that you could do to build up all of your leg muscles.

You could try squats for your quadriceps and hamstrings.

For your calves, which might possibly be the most important muscular group in your legs, you could try to have your toes on the edge of a step on stairs, then lower your body by bending your toes upwards, then push your body up using only your toes like you're tip-toeing on the edge of the step.

OR, you could try a vertical leap increasing program. I hear that "Air Alert" is a very popular and reliable program. It's a 15-week program that GUARANTEES to add 8-12 inches to your vertical leap. I was on it for about 3 weeks, but fell off of it cuz I didn't have time for the 3-nights-a-week program, but in those 3 weeks, I gained 1-1/2 inches in vertical leap, so it's definitely worth checking out.

Good luck, and remember: dunking is glamorous and fun, but fundamentals like dribbling, shooting, and passing are paramount for becoming a great basketball player.

In Kingdom Hearts 1 How do I get high jump?

Okay, so basically I didnt get High Jump as a shared ability for each of my characters AFTER I beat the mostro level of the game.. I'm now in hollow bastian, after defeating everything including the hercules cup, neverland, and everything in between. Is there any way I can get it now? It's really fustrating. Please Help!|||You might of gotten High Jump as a shared ability but didn't equip it. In order to equip High Jump as one of your shared abilities, first go pause the game when you are not attacking. This will bring up a menu on the screen. Choose "Abilities," then choose "Shared Abilities." Choose "High Jump" and then choose to equip it.

If this does not work, there might be something wrong with your copy of the game because you will ALWAYS get High Jump automatically after defeating Monstero. If this method does not work, you might have to return your copy of the game to the store you bought it at or trade it in.

UPDATE: Ok, Monstro is not truly gone! I first thought that when I first played the game, but I found out that you MUST go back to where you found Monstro through the Gummi Ship in space. From time to time, HE WILL COME BACK TO EAT YOUR SHIP! Once you are able to get inside Monstro, be sure to complete anything else you need and wish to do inside Monstro. I recommend finding all the dalmatians in Monstro if you're going for the secret ending. Also, be sure to go where you fought the bosses in Monstro and go back to the area where you saw Riku in Monstro.|||You cant complete Monstro without it. You should have it. because its the only way to get to the second floor where Riku is.

I have great form it could be better but im not going to be able to get much higher at all by form.

So what could I do to get better ups and about how long will it take until i see improvements.|||It's the simple concept of defying gravity. You need enough muscle contraction force and speed to propel yourself high into the air. Once you have the vertical, you can work on form.

Start by doing resistance explosion exercises.

Do squats and other leg exercises with heavy weights that limit you to about 10 reps.

Lunges with the same principle, do sprints from 25-50 yards.

Work on your upper body power because it also contributes to your vertical propulsion.

When you train, you need to act like you're trying to jump effortlessly with all the weight on your back. You have to train your mind that you NEED to be able to jump high.|||Just jump REEEALLY high... (:

If you do not live within a reasonable distance to another facility there isn't much you can do for jump practice.

You can do drills and practice your approach without the jump.|||you can try asking a local college if you can use their facilities (through your coach) and if that's not possible, there are drills you can do without actually jumping ~ if you have access to a pool (YMCA, Boys Club, etc) there are also drills you can do in the pool for high jumping . . . when I was in HS, we were forced to use gym mats with tire inner tubes between them to land on and the HJ bars were triangular and metal ~ OUCH

How can I improve my performance in Long/Triple/High jump?

I know there all different events, my current best jumps are 4.84 for Long, 10.1 for triple and 1.45 for high jump, so theres alot of room for improvement|||Sure they are all different event, but they all end in the same word - jump. Therefore, if you improve your jumping ability, you will improve each of these events. If you can jump higher, you will also be able to jump longer. It is a matter of physics.

In the long jump, for example, you run and jump into the air. How far you travel is dependent on two things - how fast you run and how high you jump. If your speed stayed the same, but you jumped higher, you would land further away (your long jump would be improved). As a note before we go on, many people don't realize that jumping and sprinting are very related in that they are explosive actions. If you do improve your jumping ability, you will probably improve your sprinting speed as well. This will give you an additional increase in your long (and triple) jump!

It is not difficult to improve your jumping ability, but it is more involved than what can be covered here. To get the best improvement, you should use a vertical jump program. This website has researched the top products and provides a review of the benefits of each of them. Check it out. You could be on your way to improving your jumping shortly.|||the best way i know is to try a jump program. It may cost a little but if you follow it, it will increase your vertical and probably your speed. This is the one i recommend|||Lift weights, do plyometric exercises, and work on technique.

Those are the ways people improve, no secrets and no short cuts.

I have seen some fairly short college high jumpers who were less than 6 feet tall, that could clear 7 feet in jumping.

The problem is everyone is limited to how high over their head they can jump, and most can not jump much more than 1 foot over their heads, so if you are short you are limited to your potential clearances.

Obviously a taller jumper has an advantage over a shorter jumper.|||If you really work at it. It will still give you a good benefit if you play any other sports. It will get you hops and if you grow then you will be good.

Hi

I was just wondering if usually, other than running, are the high jump / long jump pits available to be used during the weekends? I don't get enough practice from my coach so i kind of just want to do my own workout.

I will ask my coach during practice, but i just want to know some of your answers first?|||Check with your coach they may be able to make arraignments for you and possibly others to use the facilities. Your coach may be prohibited from allowing you to use the facilities due to school policies but they will most likely be able to advise about alternatives available for you to do additional training.|||That depends on your school district, here the pits are open and so are the tracks, but some places they lock up the tracks and no one can use them at nights or week ends.

If the area is not restricted then you can use it.

Why do people roll when they hit the ground form a high jump?

Im wondering cuase ive been playing GTA 4 and when i do a high jump a land on the ground rolling. Why is that? I know gta iv uses euphoria a program that makes things seem like real life so there's probably a logical reason. So why? is it safer?|||You can realize the answer by thinking of two cases:

a) A guy falls falls and absorb all the impact by bending this legs but not moving forward.

b)Same as above but as he bends he lets himself fall toward into a roll.

In b) some of the energy of the fall has been converted into forward motion. As such the legs of guy b) don't have to take such a strain. Therefore he is likely to get hurt less

As anyone who messed up a parachute landing will tell you converting pure vertical motion into forward motion is very hard (you basically land with you legs back abit and roll forward as your legs compress).

It's harder the faster you fall so don't think this will mean you can go jumping from 6 storeys. That said if you look up parkour you can see videos of guys using this technique to jump from incredible heights. |||well in layman's terms, if you jump and land on you two feet (even if you crouch) the reaction from the ground will be MANY MANY times more that what it will be if you fall down and start rolling... that is the easiest explanation i can give..

hope it helps :-)|||To give less impact to the blow and to save their legs. It's safer as long as you don't land on your head.

What muscles do you use in high jump?

I'm doing high jump this upcoming spring and I want to train this winter. I would like to do strength training over the winter. What are the muscles that will help me jump higher? Please be specific like calves and quads, not just legs. Also, what kind of exercises would I do to tone those muscles?|||Actually you use all of your muscles to high jump.

If you are going to lift weights then you should do a total body routine and lots of abdominal and core muscle work.

Plyometrics are good drills to work on the explosive muscular action required to jump high.

Doing extensions, curls, squats, lunges, cleans, toe raises from a seated and standing position will work the lower body, but you should always do upper as well.

If you remember you can not jump with just your legs you will be able to train.

What are some weight exercises to strengthen the muscles used for high jump?

I recently got put on my high schools high jump team and I'm used to lifting weights to strengthen my body more than just practicing.|||If you want to jump higher, you need to train each stage of the jumping so: starting, progressive acceleration, power output.

Starting: exercises like box squat, hyper extension one leg. (need to be explosive)

Power output: height jump, calf jump.

progressive acceleration: deadlift.

Those are really good for jumping.

High Jump Sportsman does a Strange Breathing Exercise and then makes a Record Jump?

Many years ago i saw a video in Discovery Channel, which showed a sportsman who will do some breathing exercise first and create a record in High Jump competition.

Do you know who that is? It was an Old Video and must be quite popular.|||No, but if it was an official high jump record and not just some video that supposedly showed a record jump, then the breathing exercise had nothing to do with the performance.

Just because you have a high level of oxygen in your muscles does not give you the ability to make record jumps.

How can i get better on high jump?

i'm in track and my event is high jump. i want to jump higher but i don't know how. my coach says that i need to jump straight up and then arch... but what does that technically mean? i'm only 5ft 4 but i am the only 8th grade girl for our team and i need to get points for the team. help!|||I high jump too, and to get the arched form, do bridges on the ground and hold that position, so when you jump over the bar you want to be in that position. And when you first jump, do almost a supermario jump (see below). When you jump over the bar, lift up both of your arms as if you are trying to throw yourself over it.

Some drills you can do are dolphin kicks, hurdling the bar, and scissor kicks.

To do a dolphin kick, stand on a box next to the mat, jump up, arch your back, and kick you legs up. If you want, you can lower the bar a bit, and if you have a bungee cord, use that instead of the bar so you don't have to keep readjusting it.

Hurdling the bar mostly strengthens your leg that you jump off of. Lower the bar to maybe about 3'2"-3'4" (lower if you want) and stand as far away as your steps, but directly in front of it. The run and jump as if you were hurdling it, but use your jumping leg.

Scissor kicks also help your leg. Keep the bar at the same height as mentioned above but stand off to the side of the mat. Run and lift the leg closest to the mat up then push up with the other leg (which should be the leg you jump off of). When you are doing this, it is like you are pretending to be a giant pair of scissors.

Oh, and a fourth drill you can do are jumps for height. It is kind of like a super mario jump. Push off with your jumping leg and raise the opposite arm, but keep it at a 90 degree angle. (Although when you really jump you will be lifting both arms).

The fourth drill is good because it is as if you are about to jump the actual bar, but there is nothing there at all. I personally think this is the best drill.

So for form, do bridges and try to get your body to arch that way when you jump the bar. Over time, you'll get used to it and you will be able to jump higher heights.

Hope this helps :)|||Start with calf raises, squats, clean jerks, and jump rope. That will increase your vertical. Then watch videos online of actually technique to high jump from the pros. They will break down every aspect of the jump and what you should be doing at what exact moment. This is just the first video I found, I'm sure there are loads more to help you...

Can I be competitive in a high school high jump event?

I'm a 15 year old girl 5'3" and I weigh 108 pounds. I've done the high jump event in the past and I won the event 5 times. However, the highest my jump has reached was 4'2". I was wondering if this would be competitive height in a high school high jump event. Also, are there any exercises to help me jump higher?

Thank you!|||You can join the team and If you work on it, your jump could improve before and during the season.

How can I pracitce high jump at home?

I just started high jump and I cant do a back bend that good over the bar how can I improve this? I wanna be able to do it. I just wanna high jump good cuz I love it already. Oh also here is another problem im a freshman and im on varisty so practing in the meets isnt really a good idea for me cuz im on varisty. I wanna be able to high jump cuz its fun. HELP|||High jumping is fairly technical, it will take a little time and your coach should observe you and make corrections. Practicing in meets isn't a good idea for anybody, save practice for practice and meets for meets. Focus on competing, on what you have done in practice.

For the back bend, keep your head back, don't look at your body, look towards the far back corner of the mat (this forces the hips to stay high).

These are some drills:

In all drills stress "Trunk upright, hips forward and head high".

2 脳 20m walking - lifting the heel and stretching the ankle quickly. Walk back to recover.

2 脳 20m bouncing ankle extension

2 脳 20m bounding arm drill

5 脳 3 or 5 stride vertical jump drill (ankle extension, free knee drive, arm action)

Three stride practice jumps, concentrating on specific body parts (5 to 10 jumps).

Good luck!|||I have the same issue although I'm considerably older than you. My advice is to practice the run up first. The approach is the most important part of the jump. You can practice your J... however many steps straight and then into your curve. Practice running circles and leaning in and pressing outward. You need to have a good approach. You can do bridges or lie on a stability ball to improve the flexibility of your back. Then try to find some time to practice with a bunjee cord on a pit. I have to go in the early am to a nearby track and hope they have left the pit out in order to do this. Good luck. You'll be great!

What is a good high jump for a 15 year old freshman?

I'm a freshman in high school and can jump 5'10. not too high but i wanna jump states at least by my junior year which is 6'4. Is this a considerable height?|||5'10 is pretty good... im also a freshman and i am jumping 6-2, my coaches expect me to be jumping(based on how tall i will be, im already jumping my height) around 6'10 so depending on how much more grown u got... i think u got a chance|||i found this product is very helpful to jump higher http://www.bestdealdiscount.com/vertical鈥?/a>

How can I improve the height that I jump for high jump?

Right, well in school we are having this competition and I don't want to embarres myself in the high jump...I'm 15, 5ft 8 and my personal best is 1.55m...I would like to get to atleast to 1.70m so are there any techniques or tricks I could use to make myself jump higher and more effienctely?|||In order to jump higher and increase your vertical jump for the high jump, you must do the right exercises and know what you are doing. Many people who want to jump higher train wrong. One of the biggest mistakes guys make in trying to jump higher is they train for endurance and strength only and not for muscle explosion.

To jump higher, you want to train your body for explosion, which is a combination of strength and quickness. Calf exercise, squats, lunges, and other strength building exercises are important for building strength and jump roping, and running stairs are good for endurance, but to increase your vertical jump, you must also train for muscle explosion, which involves plyometric exercises.

Plyometrics is where you simulate sports movements and concentrate on simulating jumping movements (explosive motions).

Plyometric exercises are used to develop your quick twitch muscles, used to increase your explosion.

Quality of the exercise is MUCH more important than quantity. 5 reps of proper form will get you in the air much higher than 20 reps of poor form. Also, if you want an explosive vertical, you must train that way! Do every exercise as explosively as possible and go for maximum height. You're vertical will improve like you never thought possible if you go for more distance on every jump. This is telling your body that you need to get HIGHER.

Besides plyometric exercises, there are other important variables involved to maximize your vertical jumping.

Some includes reducing body fat, proper nutrition, increasing flexibility.

How to jump higher than 3'10 in high jump for a track meet?"?

I am 12 years old and is doing track this year! My best score in high jump is 3'10 and i am always getting the same height! Plz HELP ME TO JUMP HIGHER THAN 3'10 FOR ARE CHAMPIONSHIP TRACK MEET ON MAY 2!!!

PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Help!|||a good idea is to use those weights that you can attach to your feet. use those to run and jump to strengthen your leg muscles. obviously, you won't be able to jump as high as you had before with the weights on, but after some time and using them, your muscles will be MUCH stronger, and you can therefore jump higher.|||does it say 3 meters 10 centimeters because if so u help me jump that and i m 14

What size running spikes should i use for running a 4x1, high jump, and 100 hurdles?

Okay, so i have asics spiked track shoes, but the spiked are really small, what would the best size spikes me for 4x1, 100 hurdles, and high jump?|||Well... on a rubber track it really doesn't matter all that much to be honest. However, you have to take into account most tracks restrict the length of the spikes so they won't damage the surface.

1/4 or smaller is good, do not get larger spikes, they actually are slower on a rubber track. If you are going to be running on a hard track then obviously the next size up is good also. If you do all three events in one track meet, do the prelims in the spikes, then change them when you are in the finals.|||The best thing you should do is to try different length spikes and see what feel best to you. The two most common spikes are 1/4 inches and 1/8 inch spikes.

Does anyone know any good weight and/or bodyweight training program to get better at high jump?

Last year, I worked on form for high jump and got it down, now I need exercises to be able to physically jump higher. I have technique, I just need more power. I was ranked last in my league last year but would like to go to state this year. All high jumper's responses and thoughts are welcome. Thanks.|||Check out this youtube video.

They have a better high jump program which has great results.|||so wht you need is leg power. what you can do is:

Squats, put your legs shoulder wideth apart and go down until your knees are at 90 degree angle, keep your back straight ( no weights needed) do like 4 sets of 10-15

Stair jumping- stand at the bottom of the stairs, legs shoulder wideth apart, squat down till knees are at 90 degrees and jump up to the first stair and keep going to the top, do that till you're legs are tired.

Lunges- do that about 4 sets of 10-15

and that should do it, if you wanted to add weight to any of that get a 25lbs plate and start with that|||P90x

Will jumping on a trampoline increase my high jump?

I play basketball and do the high jump in track. Will jumping on a trampoline (the big backyard ones) increase the height of my jump for these sports?|||Best way to increase your vertical jump is working on your calf muscles. Jumping on a trampoline can help, but you are better off using that time and energy on some other exercises if your goal is to increase your vertical jump.

the ones below can be helpful

http://www.ehow.com/how_5634_increase-vertical-leap.html

http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com/increaseverticaljump.html|||no i dont think so. i have a trampoline in my backyard, and after i jump on it, it feels wierd when i jump naturally from the ground. it feels like you're jumping lower than before. i dont think it would help anything except for maybe building up your leg muscles a little.|||Could because you're working the same muscles that you use when you jump.|||i've never jumped on a trampoline, so i don't really know, but i would guess yes, because it might help your legs.|||yes because it keeps your muscles moving.

What are the differences between high jump and long jump?

I think I want to sign up for high jump in track but I don't know if long jump is easier or more fun, what are the differences?|||long jump - athletes combine speed, strength, and agility in an attempt to leap as far from the take-off point as possible.

high jump - competitors must jump over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without the aid of any devices.|||Long jump is probably easier, because htere is more technique to high jump with arching your back and taking off at the right spot and position.|||It's mostly what you prefer, but there are pluses and minuses to both:

High Jump: Technique is important, but there are many ways to do the jumps

Long jump: Running speed plays a major role; if you can't sprint too fast this might not be the best for you.

I did high jump and liked it a lot, but both are fun depending on your perspective.

How do I get over my fear of the high jump?

Just this year at school we started doing high jump. The lowest is 90cm, and I'm still scared! My P.E teacher is strict and everyone in my class can do it. I'm just scared I will crash and fall, somehow I can't get my legs over it. I did it once or twice, but I'm so scared and I don't know exactly what it is. Can anyone help?|||Do a sky-dive,.

Could a gymnast performing a tumbling run break the world high jump record?

Gymnasts doing tumbling runs store a lot of energy to enable them to then perform double somersaults etc. Could this energy allow them to get enough height to do a roll over a high jump bar and break the world high jump record which is not much higher than the athletes who set it?|||Not unless they participate in an official track meet and jump over the bar. Also, the official rules of track and field say you must jump off ONE foot to be a legal jump. Besides that rule, it doesn't matter if you do flips, rolls, whatever, as long as you go over the bar off ONE foot. Perhaps you should realize that people have been high jumping for a long time now and they probably have the best way to do it down pat. They used to do the western roll until Dick Fosbery developerd the Fosbery Flop in which you jump over the bar facing the sky, unlike the western roll where you would be face toward the ground. They used the roll prior to good landing padding because it allowed you to land easier on the ground (they used to use sawdust to land on!). Once the landing padding (called "the pit") improved, they could land on their back without killing themselves.

The world record is just a bit over EIGHT FEET. I doubt a gymnast gets their entire body that high off ONE foot..|||They aren't mineral springs, they're HOT springs!

I use to love high jumping..when your timing is right...who knows how high you can jump!!

Good Luck to you........|||High jump is not my best event but i still love it. The best thing to do is just to practice. $39.95 video instruction|||Visualization is an important element of jumping events. You must be able to tune out distractions and crowd noise and almost think yoursel over the bar. A visualization technique for beginners used by some high jumpers that I know is to stare at a piece of paper with a black box in the center for about 2 minutes. Then look away from the paper at a blank wall and you should see the reverse; a white box on a dark background. The purpose of this drill is to learn to focus your attention.

Your head and your eyes will dictate what your hips do. If you are looking down at your feet or your steps, you certainly won't jump up in the air. If you are looking at the bar when you jump, you will run right into it. Your gaze should shift over the course of the approach and then the jump. It should start at the near standard.

At the point of takeoff, your gaze should be parallel to the bar, not looking at any of the high jump apparatus but at something that could be along the line of the bar about twenty feet away. After the take off you should lean your head slightly back and try to look at something on the opposite side of the pit from the middle of the bar.

Use Your Arms!

you should have both arms back behind the body, elbows bent, in preparation for the drive and block at the same time as the takeoff. on the final step, both arms come forward, driving the body up and off the ground.

meet warm ups should mimic actual competition jumps .|||Growing longer legs. Try also springs on the bottom of your shoes, works for me!|||You can try improving your vertical jump by doing a lot of plyometric excersices. These excersizes work your leg muscles and have been known to increase your vertical, just make sure to stay on the balls of your feet as much as possible. Don't go all they way down to your heals. . I don't know if people still use it, but there are special shoes you can buy called "Strength Shoes". They also work to increase speed and vertical leap. Having good form in your excercises may lead to the same results as wearing the shoes.

Also, improving your form will help just as much, if not more than, improving your vertical. Find a good coach if possible or watch some good instructional videos.

I'm a sophomore girl in high school and my best high jump is 4ft. 3in. I know that's not very good, but I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions that would help me improve. I'm aiming for 4ft. 6in.|||I've got some help 4 you. When you are at practice, don't set the bar low and work your way up. You said you can only jump 4'3 set the bar at 4'5. Work on this until you clear it multiple times. Also when you are jumping pretend there is a bird in the air and you are trying to kick it. I know this sounds silly but it should increase your legs up so you don't hit the bar. And arch your back as far as you can.

The answer as to calf workout is very good,

BUT...........................

How much weight are you working to get into the air?

What is your weight in relation to your height?

What is you stride length?

What kind of speed do you have?

When you practice try to scissor kick the lower height that you could easily clear as a sort of warm up.

well i hope u the best of luck!!!|||Do calf raises on days you are not practicing. Go on your last step in your house (inside or outside), and place one foot on the stair--but only the toes and ball of the foot. Use this "front" part of the foot to lift your entire body. Do this and your calves and achilles tendons will be stronger, which will improve your jump!|||I bet your local library has a video on high jumping or maybe you can buy one on the internet. There are so many things that go into it that it is impossible to list them all here. How do I train to jump higher in high jump?

I'm 15yrs old and ever since I was about 12-13yrs old I have made it in high jump upto 1.25m and I just can't get over 1.25m and I'm in grade 10 this year and it's my last year to complete high jump so I really would like to get over 1.25m is there any tips??|||Myself trained with an old bicycle riding many miles a day building up my leg muscles. I also built my own high jump bar and practiced. If my figures or correct, your clearing just over 49.21 inches or 4 foot 10 inches. All I can say is shame on you. I was 5 foot 1 inch tall and could clear 5 foot 8 inches.

One meter = 39.37 inches. divided by 4 = 9.84. 39.37 + 9.84 = 49. 21 inches Divided by 12 = 4foot 10 inches oh and by the way, I weighed 105 pounds. What is really funny about this is, at 27 years old I got to 5 foot 8 inches tall. One kid on my team was 5 foot 7 inches and he was clearing 6 foot 2 inches. We are white males also. If this tells you anything I could leg press 620 pounds. You got a lot of work to do to pull off what your wonting to do.

How fast should you run a 100m in track and how high do they start the high jump at??

I'm joining my varisty track yeam at my high school and ive never ran track before. How fast do people normally run a 100m or a 200m and how high do they normally start the high jump at??|||For a girl -those times above are WAY off.

It depends on how old you are, but for a varsity girl's 100m

-in the high 11 seconds is Phenominal and is tops Nationally!,

-in the 12 second range is Awesome and would put you among the top in the nation also,

-in the 13 sec range is competitive, and

-in the 14's (not bad) and you can improve with training.

200m -23 to 26 is fantastic %26amp; could compete nationally,

-even 27 is very competitive at a local level.

-28 is really good and with fitness and endurance would improve, and

-up to low 30's you could still get competitive with endurance fitness, speed work, and training on your form.

You'll be surprised how much you improve with track fitness and training AND experience. If you feel you're not as competitive as you'd like to be, you can either be patient with yourself or try longer distances and test out your endurance too- but you won't know what you are capable of there until you train for some time because endurance takes time, and every season you get soooooo much better.

How do you read the height scale on the high jump pole?

I just started track and I went to practice high jump. I noticed on the side of each pole that holds the bar that you jump over up has a scale on it. The numbers were really confusing and had stuff like 3 over FT(like a fraction). The height this interval was at was no where near 3 feet. So I am very confused. Can someone tell me how to read how high the bar is on the pole? Even my coaches didn't know.|||sometimes things are retarded. for us, when our bar is off and the poles are uneven and whatever, we use a loose hanging measuring tape and measure the height from the center of the bar to the ground. that's how you will know for sure how high the bar is. keep the measuring tape on the bar and run it from end to end, making sure that the height is correct. it gets a little annoying, but it's never wrong.

At that point, the jumper is actually leaning away from the bar, allowing for the centrifugal force that will pull him or her into a vertical position for the jump.

The lift-off requires the jumper to overcome gravity by launching directly upwards while pushing against the ground. The greater the force applied to the ground, the greater the force that returns to the jumper.

Bar clearance requires careful management of the human center of gravity. The center of gravity is that point where an object balances perfectly. The force of gravity pulls down vertically and is concentrated at each object's center of gravity. For an object to remain balanced, the center of gravity must be on a vertical line with the point of suspension, above or below it. The ideal high jump position involves draping the body over the height of the crossbar at the peak of the jump.

Why am I good at high jump, But a bad runner and long jumper?

I'm sixteen and I'm 168 pounds and about five foot eleven. I'm bad at running and long jump but I'm good at high jump, Why is this? Don't they use the same muscles or at least similar muscles?|||yes, you use the same muscles to run and jump.

Some people can jump and some can't. Some people believe that any sprinter can long jump, but that is not true.

When we are coaching a good high jumper we say they have up.

It just means they have a lot of spring and you must convert your horizontal speed into vertical speed.

Being a good high jumper also takes a lot of body control. I once tried to make a high jumper out of a boy who could stuff a basketball, but could not get off the ground in the high jump.

It is a skill along with your ability to get up.

|||no not the same muscles, high jumping is mostly calfs running is more thighs and quads but some calfs and same with long jump|||people are just made different you being made to jump high

What things can you do at home to improve your high jump?

I was one of the only girls who qualified in for high jump, so I get to do a special program. I am just wondering what I can do at home, and can jumping on the tramp improve my jumping skills?|||If you live near a beach, jogging, stride running and long jumping in the sand. Jogging in the sand will build up your calf muscles and striding and long jumping will help with your high jump take offs.|||Well I guess any sort of jumping would build your muscles if you work hard enough. But the best thing is to do Box Jumps, Squats, or any workout with eplosion involved.

How to get high jump in kingdom hearts 1?

ok i need the high jump ability to beat monstro. im on level 51 and i dont have it. Is there something you need to do first or a certain level you need to get to to get it? help plz?|||Easy one. Go to the boat where Geppetto and co. are located. You'll see a chest there. Open it and you'll have your High Jump. To equip it, go to "Shared Abilities" in the Abilities section on the menu and put it on.|||After you beat the first Parasite heartless that has Pinocchio then you go back to the boat you first met Gepetto on. Then, I'm pretty sure there is a small cut scene with Riku in it then you open up a chest that appears on the boat. Next go to the menu and go to abilities. Finally, go down to shared abilities and High Jump should be there.

What are some tips for girls high jump in track?

I'm on the track team and I need some tips on how to get better in high jump. I can easily get over 4', and my best so far is 4'3". My goal is 4'6".|||The trick is in the vertical jump, using your arms to throw yourself up, and arch. Make sure that when you land on the mat your body is perpendicular to the bar, rather then parallel to it.

How to not get psyched out for high jump?

I started high jumping for track in 7th grade (I'm in 9th grade now). I used to be really good at it. In 7th grade my PR was 4'10". At my first track meet this year I only got 4'6". This also happened at the second meet. I'm really anxious that I'm not good at it anymore, so I'm psyching myself out and I'm doing worse because of it. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to not psych myself out and jump like I used to?|||Well 1st you don't need to worry bout your PR during the trackmeet you just need to chill and have fun yet push yourself the best you can because if u do that then you gave it your all not just oh I beat my PR and don't be what my coach calls a headcase it is a person who over thinks to much about the jump and it just psyches you out even more.

How to make your body more flexible for High Jump?

I am currently a freshman trying high jump for the first time and I have been consistently getting 5 feet 5 inches. I watch some of the older kids and I am shocked how they can bend their back around the bar. What kind of drills, exorcises, and stretches can I do to increase my flexibility and performance in high jump? Any tips would be highly appreciated.|||A gymnastics bridge would have to be the best way I know. Lay on your back on the ground, bend your knees so that they are pointing to the ceiling and your heels are touching your bum. Bend your arms so that your elbows are pointing to the ceiling and your finger tips are pointing to your shoulders. Then try and push up so your back is bent and off the ground. Search google images for a 'gymnastics bridge' to get a picture.

Stretch a little every day, eventually you'll have increased shoulder flexibility and its the best way to develop flexibility in your back and even part of your legs.

Hope that helps.

How to practice high jump at home?

I rarely get to practice high jump at school because the boys track team and high school team are always using it. Will doing high backflips on the trampoline or anything like that help me do better at high jump?|||Get some standards(bookshelfs maybe?) or something else to rest the bar(broom?) on. And use your trampoline or a bunch of old matresses as a landing pit. Work on your approach and 3 step technique. Doing backflips on a trampoline really wont help much. Have fun and stay safe.|||@ larry johnson -- You can only jump 5 foot 2?? Im 12 and I can jump higher than that...

What exercises can i do to increase my high jump and long jump?

What exercises can i do to increase my high jump and long jump?|||FIND A RUNNING TRACK WITH A LONG JUMP PIT AND RUNWAY

Doing the long jump begins on the long jump runway, the strip of track that leads up to the long jump pit. You are required to take off and jump from before a line (typically known as the "board" or painted on the runway) and your jump is measured from the distance between the board and the first mark that you make when you land from your jump.

Step2 STARTING YOUR APPROACH AND RUN-UP

Begin a decent distance away from the long jump pit (usually about 10-12 strides away is ok for beginners, 14-18 for advanced jumpers) not worrying about your foot position on the board just yet (after you start practicing you can measure the exact distance you need to have your plant foot be directly on the board to maximize your distance). Begin your run up knowing that you must be at your top speed right before you take off for the pit.

Step3 RUNNING DOWN THE RUNWAY

Completing a successful long jump requires speed and power. As you run down the runway and prepare to jump, your speed should be increasing as you approach the pit. Focus your eyes ahead and picture in your mind how you will take off and hang in the air. Be relaxed and focus your mind on speed, speed, and speed.

Step4 THE TAKE-OFF

As you get closer to the long jump board your body should be in a controlled state and the step right before you take off (the "penultimate" step) will be a bit shorter as your hips drop slightly and you translate your energy from the speed you have into distance. Drive your take-off leg up and out and move into your "hang" position as you are in the air.

Step5 IN THE AIR

While you are in the air, you can do what comes most natural to you. Advanced long jump techniques include the "hang" technique where you try to keep your legs up for as long as possible before landing, or a "hitch-kick" technique where your legs rotate once over and then move into the hang position. Another technique jumpers use is the "bicycle" where you rotate your legs up and down and forward as if you were riding a bicycle, with the aim of course, being greater distance to the jump. What you do in the air depends on your own preference, so try out what feels best for you!

Step6 THE LANDING

Landing your long jump well involves extending your feet as far as possible. Because your jump is measured from the edge of the board to your first mark, you can have a great jump but a poor landing and it will cost you significant distance. You want to land with your feet out in front of you and you follow through with your landing by going "through" the jump. Picture impacting the sand with your feet and the rest of your body following right through that initial mark. Some jumpers twist their bodies to the side to prevent any unintended marks from being measured (a more advanced technique), but again, do what is most comfortable from you to start and adjust as you improve or get more serious in the event. Good luck!|||K heres the best way to jump higher my freind did it and now he can jump insane high.this is also how free runners train sometimes.

Ok so dig a hole in your yard or what ever each day jump in and out of it for say....20-50 times and each day digg the hole a little bit deeper.doing this and if your commited it will strengthen your leg muscles making you jump higher.forget sqauts.

What are some advantages of having high jump spikes?

I recently acquired a pair of high jump spikes, and I'm looking to see how they are going to affect my performance. What are the advantages of using a pair of high jump spikes? How have they worked for you?

Also, if you've had experience with this, what size spike do you use? Are you supposed to use a different length in the heel?

Any input would be great!|||High jump spikes are spikes made for high jump, just like sprinting spikes are made for sprinting and etc. They are like a good pair of sneakers except with traction for not really stumbling when you go through your j-curve. Unless you only do high jump, I don't suggest having the pair because a good pair of running shoes (I use Asics) will work just fine. But if you have them, use them.

The spike for the actual shoe should come with it. If you have to buy them separately, buy spikes designed for high jump. The spikes are all the same size and are short, kind of like mid-distance spikes.

Good luck with high jump :)

What is the average high jump length for a 12 year old in middle school?

I need to know how high a beginning high jumper in 7th grade should jump.|||Hey i did high jump in 7th grade 2 :)

i was like 5'7 and i cleared 4'10 at the very last meet.

in 8th grade i didn't get 2 do it thou bc i got stuck with the mile 2mile, long jump/ 2mile relays and 1mile relay

if you work hard you should be able to clear ur goals|||depending on your height and leg strength, a beginning high jumper in seventh grade should be able to jump between 3-5 feet.|||Like 6-7 inches. Good luck junior!

What is the best way to do a high jump when doing high jump?

I know the question sounds a little funny! I am talking about the sport high jump. I am absolutely horrible at doing high jump so all tips will be great!

How high is the bar set for the opening jump in high jump?

I'm A sophomore girl high jumper and i was wondering how high they set the bar for the opening jump. When I was doing it in Jr. High it was like 4'2'' or 4'4''. But I know its higher than that so if u know and can help that would be great!|||depends on the meet. it's set by a committee. it's usually an average of what each jumper can jump or below that. in high school meets that allow jumpers to choose their opening jump because if there is a tie it's decided by the previous jump height cleared or by the number of scratches.|||Props, you nailed that one.

How can I be better at the running long jump and high jump?

I am in grade 5 and I really want to be better at the running long jump. I am pretty good at the standing one but running long jump is difficult. Also any tips on high jump. Please help and best answer 10 points!|||To do well in the long jump you need to work on your approach, so that you can take off without changing your stride, which ruins your speed.

The high jump is more technical than the long jump and is very complicated, you need a coach to do well in either event, so until you find someone to help you, you are not going to do as well as you can do.

What is the difference between high jump shoes and long distance shoes?

I do both in track and I don't know which to invest in. I was thinking of getting High jump shoes. Is that a good choice.|||High jump shoes have a "J" heel. If you ran in those, it would mess up your run. Get both pairs of shoes.

or if you don't want to buy both, run in your training shoes, and buy the high jump shoes. if you run in spikes, it can take up to 3 seconds off your time though...|||I'd go with the jump shoes, then run distance in your flats (regular running shoes).

How can I jump higher in high jump?

I'm very bad at high jump and my highest is 100-105cm.

I always hit my butt and can't go higher.

People say to lift my butt up more, but how can i do that?

Is there any other tips for me to jump higher?|||Make sure you arch your back. You can practice doing the bridge to improve your arch (standing or sitting position works)

Don't slow down as you get to the bar.

Practice your approach because that's a vital part of high jumping

Try from both sides, because you could actually be going off the wrong foot. Also, asking your coach would really help!|||tigh weights to your ankles and thighs, lower the mark, and learn how to jump with the weights on|||well u should swing ur arms more and put ur butt up to get high

How do you increase your high jump height?

I'm thinking about joining for high jump next year. What are some good exercises to increase how high you can jump? I know the ones for vertical leap but are those the same as for the high jump way?|||You need to lift weights twice each week, doing a total body routine, after lifting do a few plyometric drills.

It takes strength to jump and you need to learn technique or the form to jump well.

High jump is vertical, so it is similar to what you know, but it is converting your horizontal speed into vertical speed, so lots of people that can jump high can not high jump.|||Okay, first off, as the answerer before me said, lifting helps. Work out your legs though, because high jump really doesn't require you using your arms except for when you lift them to throw yourself over. I'm pretty sure that high jump and the vertical leap have different drills, but I've never done that before so I'm not positive if there are one or two.

Time for the tips~

When you high jump, you want to arch your back when you go over because the form allows you to jump higher, so practice the arch by doing bridges on the ground. It will take a while for your body to get the exact form, but over time you will. And when you first jump, do almost a super mario jump (see below). When you jump over the bar, lift up both of your arms as if you are trying to throw yourself over it.

Some drills you can do are dolphin kicks, hurdling the bar, and scissor kicks.

To do a dolphin kick, stand in front of the mat, jump up and over the bar, arch your back, and kick you legs up. You should lower the bar to about 3'4", and if you have a bungee cord, use that instead of the bar so you don't have to keep readjusting it.

Hurdling the bar mostly strengthens your leg that you jump off of. Lower the bar to maybe about 3'4" (lower if you want) and stand as far away as your steps, but directly in front of it. The run and jump as if you were hurdling it, but use your jumping leg to push off. (The leg I push off for hurdles is different than the one I push off for high jump so if you hurdle too you might need to adjust or just not do this practice)

Also, try to land on your feet.

Hope this helps and high jump takes a while to get used to. So take your time.

*** Okay, here's a small added note: I'm not so sure of this, but high jump seems to be more of a talent. People either can do it or they can't from what I've seen. But anyways, good luck :)|||im not sure what high jump is but i can give you an exercise that will help you get higher with your jump. basically what you do is go into a deep squat position. after that you leap off the ground. then go back into a squat position. i did this with a cross fit trainer. it will help. sorry if its not clear enough.

How high should i be able to jump for high jumping?

I am a middle school girl who is 5'11 and pretty athelitic. And how high can the average middle school girl jump for high jumping?|||A meter 35-38. A girl who's in grade 7 can jump 1 meter 32 and everyone sayes she's so good. She's like 5'3 or someting. You have the advantage of being tall, so you can probably jump higher. Good Luck:)|||at least 4'5|||i'm 5'6 and can jump 4'10 but i'm in high school.

i think that you should be able to clear at least 4'6 just focus on going up. it sounds silly but it works, i have seen soooo many girls who jump INTO the bar so dont try to jump OVER it, your momentum will do it for you, just go UP!!!

hope it helps:)

Does vertical jump greatly affect high jump in track and field?

This track season I'm planning on doing high jump for the first time. I've never actually done the high jump before, and I'm a newbie to field events.

However, I have a vertical jump of 35 inches, and I'm wondering that if I learned how to high jump correctly, what height would I probably reach in the high jump? Could I possibly be able to jump over 5 feet?|||I think you can clear 5 feet without any problem.

Vertical height is necessary to high jump, but just because you can jump high does not mean you can high jump.

I coached a boy who could touch the basketball rim, but could not get over a high jump bar.

You need to learn the technique, which is not that difficult, but takes coaching and talent.

You need to go out, have fun, and see what your potential is to high jump.|||yes you should be able to clear 5 feet because i have a 32 inch vertical and i tried high jump for the first time this year as well and i jumped 5 feet 6 inches and never really got the technique down. So you should be fine

High jump?!?

i have a meet tomorrow and I need some high jump tips

if I clear two more inches i set a school record!

i already know how to high jump i just want some tips on how to be PERFECT

PLEASE AND THANX

all tips appreciated|||stretch. and ATTACK the bar!|||clear your mind and dont think about it cause if you do while your doing it youll definitely mess up|||first off stretch really good and get warmed up the looser your muscles are the higher u jump. Also make sure u count your steps off and try to jump in the middle of the bar. Also something I do is to think that if I clear it then on the other side of that victory is the hottestgirl ever. Trust me it works. Good luck|||I'm also in high jump. The best tips I've heard from my coaches was...

*When you run .. run at an angle like your going to jump on the side of the mat

*Lean back and pull your butt up as high as you can with your feet and legs the same way

*Pretend your pulling a rope to your stomach to lift your back easier

*AND look up at the sky pretend your flying or something..

Those are the best tips that help me all the time at meets

Thats how i win.. Good luck !!|||Make sure you run in a "J" shape. If you run in a "C" shape, no matter how high you arch, your feet will always hit the bar. When you run in a "J" shape, your back is parallel to the bar right before you jump.

Use your arms to get you up higher.

Try to look back at the mat to help you arch more.

Hold your arch long enough, then snap your legs in really hard.

Take long strides at the beginning, short sprints at the end.

Measure your starting point from the mat (with a measuring tape) and then measure how far out that measurement is from the standard. This will help you in away meets to start in the right place.

Stretch out well at the beginning- do backbends, flatbacks, and run throughs before actual high jumping.

High Jump?

I run distances for my high school. My coach decided that he wants to put me in high jump. I practiced for it i get over the bar and stuff but i dont think im good. do u have any advice|||This is my first year trying high jump and my coach told me to just remember to use your arms and get a good arch with your back. Also to practice running up to the bar and getting your footing correct.|||suck your butt in!!
