How do I improve my high jump for track?

I high jump for track, how can I improve my height and form?|||Try to get more speed on your entry...also at the last second of your take off....make sure you really push off you toes to max out your lift on the take off.....pull your arms back by your side close to your body to help you get up there!!

I use to love high jumping..when your timing is right...who knows how high you can jump!!

Good Luck to you........|||High jump is not my best event but i still love it. The best thing to do is just to practice. Just try to excell your speed and then jump up and turn your body to get over the bar. Just even practice like jumping on your bed. :P It's not the same but it's worth a shot. Hope I helped, Good luck.|||eat your wheaties|||try.|||http://store.coachessource.com/hifo.html

$39.95 video instruction|||Visualization is an important element of jumping events. You must be able to tune out distractions and crowd noise and almost think yoursel over the bar. A visualization technique for beginners used by some high jumpers that I know is to stare at a piece of paper with a black box in the center for about 2 minutes. Then look away from the paper at a blank wall and you should see the reverse; a white box on a dark background. The purpose of this drill is to learn to focus your attention.

Your head and your eyes will dictate what your hips do. If you are looking down at your feet or your steps, you certainly won't jump up in the air. If you are looking at the bar when you jump, you will run right into it. Your gaze should shift over the course of the approach and then the jump. It should start at the near standard.

At the point of takeoff, your gaze should be parallel to the bar, not looking at any of the high jump apparatus but at something that could be along the line of the bar about twenty feet away. After the take off you should lean your head slightly back and try to look at something on the opposite side of the pit from the middle of the bar.

Use Your Arms!

you should have both arms back behind the body, elbows bent, in preparation for the drive and block at the same time as the takeoff. on the final step, both arms come forward, driving the body up and off the ground.

meet warm ups should mimic actual competition jumps .|||Growing longer legs. Try also springs on the bottom of your shoes, works for me!|||You can try improving your vertical jump by doing a lot of plyometric excersices. These excersizes work your leg muscles and have been known to increase your vertical, just make sure to stay on the balls of your feet as much as possible. Don't go all they way down to your heals. . I don't know if people still use it, but there are special shoes you can buy called "Strength Shoes". They also work to increase speed and vertical leap. Having good form in your excercises may lead to the same results as wearing the shoes.

Also, improving your form will help just as much, if not more than, improving your vertical. Find a good coach if possible or watch some good instructional videos.
