How many skips of jump rope is good for high intensity cardio?

so im trying to get my lungs back into shape, and i'm trying to switch up the routines from running a mile a day to some high intensity jumping.

how many skips is good to close up my workouts?

im a young guy and i have a fit strong body except my cardio is weak cause i smoke.|||lol.

well, i think 900 is wayyy too much. To start with.

Don't push your self. Just like do 100 one day, than the next 150, than the next 200. You get my point? or you could go up by hundreds. Good to see you take intrest in your health. :]

Just don't smoke! :]|||Try to do at least a 100 skips.|||The key is to skip for 5-10 minutes and count how many you can do. Then, you keep improving that number each time. Once you can't improve it, you bump up another 10 minutes (if you want, but not really necessary if it's just part of a broader work out)

Will it cause me to jump worse in my high jump if i jump off my right foot on a left footed approach ?

i've jumped like this for a while and it's a habit , i can jump 1.70 meters this way already though , with very little training ,shud i stick with the wat i am?|||no you shouldnt, the force behind you will push your body into the bar.|||You can not jump high if you are taking off from the foot closest to the bar.

I assume this is what you mean by a left foot approach and jumping off the right foot.

Your center of gravity is behind the foot, and as your height increases you will not be able to get the lift or convert your speed into height. You need to change your approach so you can jump off the foot away from the bar if you expect to jump much higher.

How to jump further in long jump? and higher in high jump?

Im 13 years old in the track team I wanna know a trick to improve in long and high jump|||i believe its called HGH (easy way and long term BAD effects)

or

working out, running, weight lifting (very hard and painful way but a safe future)|||You should try jumping right at the end of the runway(whatever you call it) and tuck into a ball and yea you will go far....this worked for me

that was for longjump....for highjump grow long legs and just flop over

Is there a way to High Jump at home?

Okay, so I do the high jump, actually just started. I think it would help if I practiced a lot at home by myself. Is there any makeshift HJ mat and bar that I can use that are (a) not expensive and (b) safe? I just need something to practice on. If none of you can think of anything, please just tell me some exercises that will help me to jump (in other words, without the mat and bar). Thanks a bunch! :)|||You can practice your approach and pop up without going into the mat anywhere.

You can do plyometics or other bounding and jumping drills to improve your strength and spring.

There are no makeshift mats that would be safe, unless you are jumping into a swimming pool.

Can i use sprint spikes for high jump?

I run 100m and 4x100 in track and I have spikes for that but I want to try high jump. Do I need to get seperate spikes for that or can I use my sprinting ones?|||You can use your sprint spikes to high jump.

It would be best to have jump shoes, but unless you are serious about jumping most people don't get several pairs of spikes they use the same pair for different events.|||yup! your sprinting spikes are just fine for long jump! in fact, i know people who say they do better in them. it's not really that big of a difference :)|||they sell seperate spikes for high jump, but it is better to use your sprinter spikes than your trainers. so you dont neceserally need new ones.

How do i jump high on a diving board?

i can get a little air, but my buddy can jump SO high on it, and i dont know how! like, we can jump the same on land. but not on the diving board.

so........any helpful hints, tips,, etc? how do i go about doing so?|||his/her body weight may be more than yours or he/she may have more leg strength vote me 45 best answer|||i have the same problem.I am more skinnier than everyone else that i know and it really depends on his/her weight and how high the diving board is or how low it is.If it's like a regular pool or a professional diving pool like the Olympic size pool then that changes the viscosity of how high you jump.

that's why most people when they are in water, its hard to stay under for longer that 15 seconds because of the weight difference. My friend is heavier that me and she can stay under longer because she weighs 10 pounds more than me.

How heavy is he/she?|||okay you are probley just a bit scared to jump really high and stuff ect. because i weigh 50 kgs and iam a diver and i can jump really high so it really does not matter how much you weigh its how you jump, so when you jump and land back on the board push down really hard and let it spring you up and do it over and over again if that doesnt work try going on the very end of the board (you might be like a bit back from the tip which makes a difference) and just jump and push down by bending your knees ect. good luck with that =]

How high do pet Chickens jump? Plus other info.?

Can chickens jump high (with the use of their wings of course)? How high of a fence would you need to make sure they never escape? Also are chickens smart? Should you keep just females or would a mix be better to keep them happier?|||Chickens can fly! (mostly short distances of course) So unless the tips of the wings have been clipped off at birth, (depending on the breed) they can probably fly any where from 3 to 9 feet high or so. But for many chickens a 4 - 5 foot fence will work, but research your breed.

My silkie bantam is only supposed to fly one foot high, but some how she manages to escape from a 3 foot high fence, She jump/flies as far as she can in the corner and climbs the rest of the way out. I gave up and now just let her roam free threw out the yard.

How to get better in high jump?

im in 8th grade (the track season just started) and my best jump last year was 4'9. I really want to break 5ft this year in 8th grade. Any tips for training or when im jumping? thx.|||Wow your good for an 8th grader. I am too but i can't jump as high as you can.

My Teacher always says to practice, practice, practice.

Train with a friend and they will be able to point out what you can do to improve.|||stretch as much as possible you can gain up to six inches doing this. also do lunges and calf raises. jump up and down on a box as fast as possible and work your fast twitch muscles.

Good shoes to increase high jump height?

okay so i made the black team for high jump for my school. black team is for the better people. i have been chosen to go to this one meet for when the coaches take the 2 best people from each event and they get to go. when i jump, i just use my cheerleading sneakers because i dont have any other ones. i wanna know what kind of shoe that would help increase my height in highjump. even if its by a few inches. thankks!|||no need for shoes IN THE KITCHEN|||Spikes are a good option but you should also look for shoes that feel comfortable and are light. Some shoes will actually advertise their weights and generally speaking the theory is that less weight means jumping higher.|||Spikes, used for sprinting in track.|||Asics

How high can a cat jump..?

Is it true that cats will always land on their feet? Also, how high can a cat jump?

My cat has jumped from the ground to the top of the fridge before. Can they jump higher than that?

Thanks for the answers!|||Hi Ken...the height a cat can jump truly depends on the individual cat. Some can jump much higher than others.

As for cats always landing on their feet, not always: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?鈥?/a>

If cats fall a short distance, they can almost always right themselves and land on their feet. If they fall more than one or two floors, however, they may sustain severe or even fatal injuries. The number of cats who become injured from falling is increasing, partially because of the large number of multi-story apartment buildings. Cats who are injured during falls are often said to have 'high rise syndrome.'

(please see website for full details)|||Adult female cat of average size--from floor to the top of a china cabinet--six feet six inches--I watched her do it and I was impressed.|||Pretty high.......atleast 4 feet|||it depends on the cat but my cat has jumped much higher than that !

in our kitchen ontop of the cabinets there is a little space for some sort of decoration and its just under our roof and i have watched her jumo from the floor to there, i've had to grab a chair from the table to get her down cause shes not supposed to be up there

Why is it that Black People can jump so high?

Why is it that Black People can jump so high?

Im not being racist. i mean face the facts its true they jump high. but why?|||You should ask the former sports announcer known as Jimmy The Greek.|||white men can jump|||You know, i really don't think it's a "Black" thing, I think it's a "Tall and Athletic" thing.|||Life's mysteries.|||because black people play better basketball and are tougher than white people (without being racist) also black people are bigger and with better awareness than white(again without racism)|||My advice to you is to go to these two websites http://run-down.com/guests/je_black_athletes_p1.php and http://run-down.com/guests/je_black_athletes_p2.php. They have a lot of information about your topic. Also, you may want to purchase "Taboo : Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We're Afraid to Talk About It" by Jon Entine.|||You are not being a racist? Then why do you sound like one?

White guys can also jump very high. Try watching high jumping and you will see a lot of non-blacks jumping high.|||because theyre knee-grows. get it? i crack myself up.|||kadour ziani is a white and he jumps higher than 99.999999% of all black basketballers out there|||cause we are awesome|||It's called training.... it have nothing to do with race man... just train and condition yourself and you can have hops also.. The people in the NBA are not born with talent.|||because white man can't jump|||ALL BLACKS CAN NOT JUMP HIGH JUST LIKE ALL BLACKS CAN NOT SING AND DANCE.|||they can run faster to they have an extra bone and muscle. im fast.|||I have heard that way back when black people were still slaves they used to selectively breed the stronger men and the stronger women hoping for stronger kids so it could possibly be genetics|||Us black people needed to be able to run faster and jump higher so we could get away from the cheetahs in Africa.|||they have ligaments in their knees that others do not. Also they play basketball a lot and strengthen their knees through that|||It's not the matter of black or white. You know that NBA is held the upper america like Los Angels, Chicago, etc. There the people are white %26amp; some are black too. After all it's about your ability that how far u can jump.|||It's isnt just them I've seen people of mostly all race that can jump really high!|||it's not a racist question. Look at the NBA and NFL, the two main sports black people play, they dominate in terms of numbers over other races. I've seen white guys who can jump and have good speed but there's a hell of a lot more black guys with that kind of ability. I'm sure there's some reason.

Is this counted as a "good" high jump for a 11 year old?

Would this be counted as good if it was 1 metre fifteen centimetres. I would have jump at least one twenty five if i hadn't badly bruised my back the weekend before. How can I improve my high jump.|||A "good" high jump for any athlete (of any age) participating in the sport is one where the middle of the bar is level with the top of the shoulder of the athlete.

A "great" high jump is when the bottom of the bar is above the level of the athlete's eyes ... and of course, higher is better.

What equipment do you need for high jump?

i know u need the bar and the matress thing. but what are they called?

i know u need high jump shoes aswell.

thanks in advance. i really really need help my project is due in 7 hours. its 11pm i would love to sleep|||You certainly need the matt or pad or pit as it is sometimes called.

You need the standards that hold the cross bar and a cross bar.

You can use special shoes, but many people just use their running spikes for jumping.

How do you do the High Jump?

Like how pro's do it? I have sports day coming up and i'm doing high jump and i don't know how to actually do it. LOL.|||LOL. Well, maybe you should see if you can practice before you do it.

I'll try to explain it as best as I can.

You need to first figure out which side you're going to run from. There will obviously be a pole you'll jump over, and a mat behind it to land on. You need to figure out which side you'll be running from; the right, or the left. You're going to run towards the poll at a sort of arc. I'll try to illustrate that:

[mat and poll]

........x [jump here]

............. ....x

........................x

............................x

................................x

..................................x

..................................x

..................................x

when you get to the last 'x', where I put "jump here", you have to take off of your dominant foot. you're almost going to be parallel to the bar when you jump. You'll take off your dominant foot, swing your arms, and throw yourself over the bar. Look up videos to see this more clearly, it's hard to describe in words lol. You'll land on your back on the mat.

Look up videos to see, and hopefully you can connect what I've said to the videos lol.

Good luck!

What muscle determines if I person can jump high or not?

Is it strong calf muscles, the thigh, explosiveness? What makes a person jump higher than another person?|||well all mussels in ur legs help u jump but its not so much how much mussel mass some one has but the strenght and power and how well those mussels have been trained.

strenght is how well mussels work together

and power is how fast u can exert ur strenght

so really its practice that makes some one jump higher than another person although good calfs quadriceps hamstrings any other mussel in ur leg will also benefit u to

Why do rabbits sometimes jump high in the air and thump their feet?

We let he run around in the living room and she jumps up high and makes a thuming noise when she jumps on our couch.|||Rabbits run and jump for pleasure. The jumping and twisting they do (called a binky) is purely for fun, the running around like an idiot (bunny 500) is both fun and learning. They'll scat around combining the two but if you look close you'll see sometimes they run the same patterns. Rabbits are prey animals, they rely on speed and knowledge of their surroundings to escape. It's vital for them that they know how to get to a safe spot as fast as possible. They'll run a particular route over and over to make sure they have it down pat and that there are no obstructions to slow them down.

Thumping is usually a way they warn other rabbits of danger in the area, in the domesticated animals I know, it seems to go beyond that though. Sometimes it will show annoyance or simply be for attention. If she's doing it right after running around and playing I'd be inclined to think it's more for attention than fear. You'll be able to tell from her body language ie tense, alert, flighty probably means danger, where as a thump followed by her grooming or binkying isn't.|||ITS CALLED HAPPINESS,AND THAT HE FEELS GOOD

Can too much muscle be counterproductive in how high you can jump?

Too much muscle weigh you down, from being able to jump higher?|||Well, in an interview with Jamal Lewis, former NFL running back, he had to stop lifting, because the amount of muscle he was gaining, was reducing his flexibility and lateral movement. Not everyoe gains that kinda muscle, but if your genetics are prone to muscle growth like his, it may be a hinderance.|||yeah if you don't run and stuff.

I ran when i used to lift and i had an insane vertical despite being heavy with muscle.

had to eat a ton stay in shape though so i dropped the weight.|||There is probably a point in time where too much upper body muscle can weigh you down but if you're developing your lower body as well then you should have enough leg muscle to help propel you into the air.

How to Jump Higher for High School Boys Volleyball?

Im a freshmen and Im about 5"4 and I would like to know how to jump higher.

Also what are Guys Volleyball tryouts like. How do you make the team. And what do the coaches look for. Also any tips. Thank you.

.|||To jump higher, I would recommend going here: http://www.volleyball-training-ground.co鈥?/a>

Guys tryouts are usually not as difficult because there are statistically fewer boys that play volleyball than girls. The most important thing is to relax and be yourself.

I would suggest reading this interview from Pat Powers that talks about what coaches look for in players. There is some great information in there. http://www.volleyball-training-ground.co鈥?/a>|||To jump higher:

Stretch, make your legs stronger and more flexible

To Work on your jump:

Start at the 10 foot line with your arms behind you. Step left, right, left (now you should be at the net) now bring your arms up and jump with your arms extended.

Guys tryouts:

not sure? We don't have them around here. But I would say they would be the same.

And coached look for ability, strength, and determination.

Do trampolines improve how high you can jump?

I want to be able to jump higher (just in general, not for cheer leading or anything) so does jumping on the trampoline a lot improve that?|||Not really. A trampoline can make anyone fly in the air no matter their weight or position.|||yes but very litte over time but like basketball is proven to make you jump higher|||ver very liitle but it helps the way you jump when you don't have one.

What are some good High Jump Tips fo track?

This year im doing track and field and I need some tips on how to high jump.|||here are some exercises /drills

Use Your Arms!

The last three steps are the most difficult for the body, and even more difficult to coordinate with the arms. On the penultimate step of the high jump, jumpers should have both arms back behind the body, elbows bent, in preparation for the drive and block at the same time as the takeoff.

walk ten steps, counting them aloud with a regular arm swing, and on the count of eight, hold the arm that is back behind the body, on the count of nine, the other arm comes back to meet it, and on ten, the final step, both arms come forward, driving the body up and off the ground, repeat this sequence over and over, and then do it with a pop or tiny jump on the end to simulate the actual take off.

Watch Where You are Going

Your head and your eyes will dictate what your hips do. If you are looking down at your feet or your steps, you certainly won't jump up in the air. If you are looking at the bar when you jump, you will run right into it. A high jumpers gaze should shift over the course of the approach and then the jump. It should start at the near standard.

When you begin the curve of the J-run, your sight line should move with your shoulders and hips toward the middle of the bar, and as you get closer to the bar and your hips and shoulders are turning more perpendicular to the bar, you should be seeing the far standard.

At the point of takeoff, your gaze should be parallel to the bar, not looking at any of the high jump apparatus but at something that could be along the line of the bar about twenty feet away. After the take off you should lean your head slightly back and try to look at something on the opposite side of the pit from the middle of the bar.

Start Small

Some useful high jump drills for beginners and experienced jumpers:

back overs from the ground and from a six inch box

scissor kicks from five steps

hurdle drills from five steps

jumps a low height from five or six steps

Sit on the ground with your legs straight out in front of you. Swing your arms, anyway you choose, one at a time, and try to lift your bottom off of the ground without touching the ground with your hands or bending your knees. Can't do it can you? Now, pull both arms behind your body, elbows bent at ninety degrees. Keeping them bent, swing your arms in front of your body and stop them abruptly when your triceps are parallel to the ground. Wow, now your seat is not longer on the ground is it? This simulates the double arm block at the takeoff point in the high jump. This is the one of the best and first high jump drill that beginning jumpers should learn and practice every day.

Practice warm-ups should mimic meet warm ups. Whatever sequence and combination of drills you do to prepare for practice jumping should be the same in type and duration as what you do for meets. Muscles have memory and you want to trigger the muscles that will tell your body to run, lean away, drive, block, and layout.|||Ask your coaches for the exact form and steps. My coach gave me some exercises to do in the off season that involve some jumping exercises with cones on soft surfaces (like grass, not cement). Anything that improves your vertical jump without stressing your muscles too much is good.|||If you do a google search or a yahoo search for "Fosbury Flop" you should find some sites that show the technique. There are also training videos available. It may be that if you ask your track coach he may be able to lend you one.

There are some other techniques, like the "western roll" and the "straddle" which I used to do, but only a few people use them anymore. Sometimes when kids try to learn the flop they don't do well because the technique makes you jump with your back to the bar, and kids have a tendency to jump into it instead of UP and over. The "straddle" teaches you to jump UP because you can always see the bar.

Obviously, you can't learn to jump until you are working with a bar and a landing pit, but exercises which strengthen your jumping ability will help. Can you touch the rim of a basketball hoop? If you can, you have some good natural ability to start with.

At what angle do most professional high jumpers jump?

In other words, how high do they jump in order to get more distance?|||Ok. The higher you get, the more distance you get, however,to get more distance, its all in the hips and your butt. Arcing your back will not help you at all and niether will angle unless you know how to use your hips and bootie to your advantage.

Since I made it to State for High Jump in my Junior year, will I be getting looked at or recruited?

High jump season is coming and i want to get in shape for contests?

summers coming which means the high jump is coming to. this year i am really keen on winning or at least getting a high rank in a high jump contest. is there any good exercises or tactics to jump up high in high jumps? i was just asking because im really keen to win contests. thanks for help guys|||I am a freshman girl high jumper this year and have done high jump since the 7th grade. You need to go up to the bar and put your hand on the bar (meaning being a hand lenght away) and put a peice of tape on the ground marking where to jump at. This really helps me with my awarness about jumping. Start your run slow and then gradually gain speed giving you momentum to clear the bar. Don't go at too a fast speed where you will ram into the bar or anything. Just a nice easy pace. Also just be confident about placing a clearing the bar. You aren't going to get any where worying about what will happen, just try your hardest and good things will happen. And remember if they don't happen on 'your time' keep your chin up and your head high because it will come someday with enough practice and courage! Best of luck to 1 high jumper to another!

Oh and also do you have a jumper coach? They should have some good advice..that's what they are there for.. Unless they are 76 like my coach is!!!!!|||well if u want to get into shape for high jump then you need to work legs legs legs......do calf raise, high knee stairs, squats and all kinds of just legs

How long is the run up for the Olympic high jump?

How long will it take for the runner from start to jump in Olympic high jump?|||Here is the official website for the Beijing Olympics. It will tell you all the information you are looking for.

:)

|||Each runner takes different amount of strides or steps in their approach.

Some take 9 and some take 11 or more.

The distance is not regulated by the rules.

Since they do not run in a straight line as does the horizontal jumps and pole vault it would be difficult to determine the exact distance of the approach unless you measured it with a tape.

If you are asking about the time required from their first step to jump, then that is also different with each jumper.|||Depends on their technique, style etc - there is no limit - ie, if a high jumper wanted to do ten circles of ten metres each, she or he is quite at liberty to do so in order to gain the appropriate momentum (energy) for conversion into a vertical leap.|||As long as it takes them to travel the 10 or 15 meters of thier run up. each jumper has a different run up. but id say about 2 seconds from start to the jump?|||15 meters

How come i can jump higher with 2 legs i jump high but when its one leg i cant jump as high?

p.s i am a basketball player

and any good workouts to jump higher on one leg?

ill really appreciate it|||Hm, I'm the other way.

But heres a vert. workout explanation, and if you want a formal one, edit your question asking for one by the books.

Hit the weights. Before anything, you have to put some muscle on your legs. Everybody always focuses on the calves, but thats only a small percentage of where your jumping power comes from. Training your glutes and quads are the most important part of the dunk. Do exercises like dead lifts, squats, and leg presses. Have one heavy day and one light day a week, with strict form. Just do 50 calve raises for each leg a day. 25 in the morning and 25 in the evening, and that should take care of your calves.

Plyometrics. After a month of just weightlifting with legs, do some plyometric exercises. You can do some weird jumps and awkward moves, but if you want to gain some hops simply, go with the old fashioned jump rope. Buy some 3-10 pound ankle weights, strap them on, and do at least 200 jumps Mon-Fri. Also, do raise jumps. These are when you jump as high as you can with your hands on your head and bringing your knees up to your chest. Do 15 jumps every other day. You can do other exercises after your body gets used to these to shock your body.

Stretching. If you stretch every morning after you wake up, prepared to gain some hops FAST. Not many people know this, but stretching helps loosen up your muscles, causing them to avoid injury, cramps, and fatigue. It helps to gain looser muscles to maximize your leap, move them faster, and utilize them to their full ability. Without stretching daily, your only loosing your vertical jump.

Abs. They help you with everything physically, including your vert. People always do exercises that have up to 25 reps. Why not treat them like a normal body part that you are trying to get bigger and stronger? When you bench, the only way your going to go heavier is if you add weight. Long story short if you add weight to your ab excercise that WONT cause you back strain, I wouldn't be surprised if you had an 8 pack in less than half a year, of course if minimal fat and maximal protein and calories. One of the best ab excercises is the ab pull down, which is when you go to a normal pull down machine, hold on to the handles, get on your knees with your body straight,

After you have been training for about 3 months, take a week off of any leg related exercises. This will help your legs tremendously.

Eat like an animal. If you wont to become one you have to eat like one. If you are between the ages of 13 and 22, you should be having at least 3000 calories a day, and one gram of protein per pound of body weight.

Get rest. That's where you get strong. If you do these kinds of activities then you should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night and no more than 13 hours a night.

Supplements are great for you. But not steroids or HGH or anything like that. |||two leg jumping uses more strength and a little bit slower muscle contraction than 1-foot jumping. People who are better off 1 foot have better plyometric ability than strength. It is very difficult to switch from being better at one to the other.

If you improve either of the two jumping styles, you'll improve both. You pretty much do the same stuff for either, but you can kind of tweak things a little bit to focus on one or the other. For example, when doing plyometrics, you want to limit your ground contact time as much as possible to focus on 1-foot jumping.

Either way, you need to develop strength and explosiveness, with strength being the first step. Check out this guy http://youtube.com/jumptrainer His website is great.|||one leg calf lifts.

put the front of your foot on a edge, like the stairs, and push your body up, you can use dumbbells to increase results|||Jumping off of 2 legs in basketball is better than 1

What is an average high jump and long jump for a 16 year old high school male athlete?

If you could tell me where you measure a long jump from too that would be greatly appreciated. Is it from the exact takeoff point? Thanks.|||sd is more or less right, average high jumpers for HS usually jump high 5-ft (5'10"-ish) to low 6-ft (6'4" is pushing the "average" range a bit). For long jump, probably 17'-18'.

As for measuring the long jump, the measure is -always- done from the front of the take-off board. So, if you jump from behind the board, the mark they'll give you is shorter than your actual jump. For this reason, it's best to get your approach steps down, so you can jump as close as you can to the front of the takeoff board without fouling. You should do this in practice and make sure that your steps are consistent. Ideally, you don't even want to be looking down at the board when you jump, just keep your eyes forward and trust your steps.

Just as an additional bit, the measure is taken from the closest mark in the pit -- so, if you lean back with your hands, the distance is marked from where your hands touched the sand.|||i guessing on this but i think the high jump maybe close to 6feet maybe high fives. and the long jump should be 17+

How do you jump high besides using jumping machines?

I know you can use jumping machines but i want to jump higher without spending 1 to 2 thousand dollars on machines.|||I would up your plyometric workouts to include more varied jumps (on to various sized boxes and with/without extra weight) Jumping from different positions (start sitting on a box or in a lunge stance) will help too.

Should I pole vault this year even though I have never done it? Or should I just high jump?

Pole vaulting looks like tons of fun, but so many people at my school do it and are good at it.

I have never done it but always wanted to try.

I am a cheerleader, so I am flexible, have upperbody strength, and I have no problem flinging myself into the air.

I dont want to to suck at it though and not be taken to meets.

High jump looks like fun too though, and I know I could do that

Which one should I do?|||You have time to try both events, then you will know which one you like the best.

Neither event is easy, so since this is your first year, you should not expect to be the best now.

Many elite vaulters did not do well their first year, it is a learning experience.|||do it, you've always wanted to, and even though there's tough competition, you're a cheerleader so rough competition is usual. Don't let life's opportunity's pass you by, you'll regret it if you don't|||You know how when you went to an amusement park as a kid and you chickened out on a ride and regretted it afterwards? Think of life as being in an amusement park. You're going to be around for a finite period of time, so you'd better do the things you want to do.

Go for it. You sound like you want to try and have the physical ability to be pretty good. Don't worry about where you finish in your first or second year. Pole vaulting is really hard. If your coaches can't help you much, go find someone who can at a local track %26amp; field club or college.

Look, I just turned 45. My body is inventing new aches %26amp; pains all the time, and it's only going to get worse. I know that. But when I ran high school track, I tried things outside of my comfort zone of long distance. I ran the intermediate hurdles. (Not well, but OK.) I ran a couple of steeplechases. (I did much better there, though I made the mistake of wearing socks, which got really heavy after going through the water pit.) And I look back now with no regrets.

I think the big thing is to not have regrets. If you want to do, then do it. Commit yourself 100%. And in the sage words of Yoda, "Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try."

BTW, Lester is right: you can do both. Who know? Maybe there's a heptathlete in you!

A good athlete can high jump 3m. What is the minimum speed an athlete will need to reach this height.?

A good athlete can high jump 3m. What is the minimum speed an athlete will need to reach this height. Where gravity is 10 m/s|||I think you meant the acceleration due to gravity = 10 m/s², and the first guy is right. the second guy didn't round correctly or has round off error, but his obtuse work is correct.

I'm assuming this is a question from a high school physics class. This is a "classic" Conservation of Mechanical Energy problem, as long as you neglect non-conservativee forces like wind resistance. =%26gt; K₁ + U₁ = K₂ +U₂

Event 1 is when the athlete's is standing. Event 2 is when the athlete's center of mass rose 3ft.

let's call

the mass of the athlete M,

v₁ the speed at event 1, which is what we're trying to solve for,

v₂ the speed at event 2, which would be zero when v₁ is at a minimum,

h₁ the initial height,

h₂ the final height the athlete's center of mass will reach, which for this problem is 3m.

K₁ = ½M v₁² (The kinetic energy of the athlete before leaving the ground)

K₂ = ½M v₂² =0 (The kinetic energy of the athlete at h2)

U₁ = M g h₁ = 0 (The potential energy of athlete can be set to zero at one event. I chose Event 1)

U₂ = M×g× h₂ where g = 10m/s² and h = 3m

now let's plug these into our equation

****** K₁ + U₁ = K₂ +U₂

½ M v₁² + 0 = 0 + M g h

Divide M from both sides, solve for v1

*** v₁ = √ (2g h₂)

*** v₁ = √ (2 ×10m/s² × 3 m)

*** v₁ = 7.75 m/s|||vf^2 = vi^2 + 2ad

0 = vi^2 + 2(-10m/s^2)(3m)

60m^2/s^2 = vi^2

7.75m/s = vi|||I'm assuming that this is a vertical leap?

Direct answer --%26gt; 7.74 m/s My math is below, but I checked this against an online calculator, and it's all correct.

Given values:

H = 3 m

g = 10 m/s^2

θ° = 90

Since we know the height, we can calculate the time that will take you come down. Since it's a vertical leap, that will be the same as the time to come up. Just a different equation.

Tf = SQRT [ 2H / g ]

Tf = SQRT [ (2 * 3m) / (10 m/s^2) ]

Tf = SQRT [ (6 m) / (10 m/s^2) ]

Tf = SQRT [ 0.6 s^2 ]

Tf = 0.775 s

Now, given the height at the beginning, and knowing the time that it takes to get up to the top, we can calculate the initial push-off velocity that the jumper has to have.

H = VoTf - 0.5gTf^2

(3 m) = (Vo) * (0.775 s) - [ 0.5 * (10 m/s^2) * (0.775 s)^2 ]

(3 m) = (Vo) * (0.775 s) - [ (5 m/s^2) * (0.60 s^2) ]

(3 m) = (Vo) * (0.775 s) - [ 3 m ]

(6 m) = (Vo) * (0.775 s)

Vo = 7.74 m/s|||2gh = v^2

2 x 10 x 3 = v^2 = 60, sq-rt = v = 7.746 m/s

How can fleas jump high if they're so small?

Im trying to get rid of the fleas in my house (I have cats) %26amp; I don't understand how they can jump so high even though they're so small???? How is this possible?|||they are built for jumping (like the kangaroo)

*********************

IF YOUR HOUSE / cat HAS FLEAS….

I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.

I DO NOT LIKE SPRAYING INSECTICIDE AROUND THE HOUSE.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX. (you find it in the soap isle if you can’t find it ask the manager to order some for you)

Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, PET BED’s, car, even wood floors.

I walk around on the floor so it gets down into the fibers. Rub your hand over the couch, etc.

(NOT ON YOUR PET!)

THEN VACUUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.

You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

Since I did this I no longer have fleas in the house. Since you vacuume it up it is not a danger to pets or children.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the topical flea killer that is on the market or wash with Dawn dish washing soap (make sure to rinse all soap out) and use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppies who are too young to have insecticide put on them.

Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol

(there is also another bug that bites… “noseeum” and the cat might scratch from that. Check for flea dirt on the cat. Advantage+ says it works on these bugs.|||very, very powerful back legs. if you evey manage to see one up close (or look on the net for a pic), have a look at the legs, you can see they are built for big jumps

How do I get my hips over the high jump bar?

I've recently started high jump, and I'm struggling to get my hips high enough to clear the bar, I'd appreciate if you could give me any advice|||I do high jump too and another jumper on my team was having the same problem. And since our coaches never coached us in high jump (I'm pretty sure they consider it a 'minor' even...) I was the one who had to help everyone.

Okay, the first thing you could do is a bridge to help with your arch. If you can't get your hips over the bar, then you are lacking your arch. Hold the position for about 15-20 seconds then stop, then start 2 more times.

A second thing is (do you happen to have a bungee cord as well as a bar?) put the bungee at the height that you can just clear over. Then put the bar up a good 2-3 feet higher than the bungee. Jump like you normally would jump but try to force your hips towards the bar (that sounds wrong...) and then, if you clear it, move the bungee up an inch or two higher.

And a final thing you can do are dolphin kicks. Put the bar (preferably bungee if you have one) up to only around 3'8" (if you need, you can always raise it) Next, stand with your back to the bar/bungee and mat and jump backwards. Try to flick your feet and arch your back while you do this.

Hope this helps~

Im 13 and have been told that im too short to be a mid hitter because im 5,4 1/2 but I jump higher than my friend who plays mid hitter on her club team and is 5,8. I can get 8 ft and about 1-3 ins. high. is that good? also what can i do to make my jump higher|||It sounds like you jump pretty high (: So long as you can play the position effectively, your height doesn't matter. If you can jump high enough to get your hands over the net to block, and you can get high enough to hit it downwards, then it's fine. Normally somebody who's your height would be a libero or a setter, just because the middle position, by nature, is designed for tall people. But I know a great middle who's only 5'5" (and you're probably still growing).

To improve you're jump, because a higher jump helps everything, do workouts that exercise your legs. Here's what I do (I'm a middle too):

1) If you have stairs, go up them. Run, hop, skip a step, anything. It gets your legs burning and strong legs = a higher jump.

2) Wall sits or other stationary exercise where you're low

3) Planks and crunches. This may surprise you, but having a strong core can really help you jump.

4) Just jump! The more you do it, the better you'll be at it.

Good luck (:|||I play on a 14 club team and our best middle is 6'0 and touches 10'3"

but i am sure you are still growing, and ur vertical will continue to increase

i usually do wall-sits, calf raises, squats, and jump-rope when i work on increasing my vertical|||When I put my hands up to block I was measured at about 11-12 ft. What coaches are worried about is how high your hands can get above the net. Middles aren't specific heights.

I cant do high jump at my track meet. Can someone help?

Coach has me doing high jump at our track meet to replace someone cause she has seen me play around with it a few times but i cant even get over the bar. Any tips?|||When you high jump, you want to arch your back when you go over because the form allows you to jump higher, so practice the arch by doing bridges on the ground. It will take a while for your body to get the exact form, but over time you will. And when you first jump, do almost a super mario jump (see below). When you jump over the bar, lift up both of your arms as if you are trying to throw yourself over it.

Some drills you can do are dolphin kicks, hurdling the bar, and scissor kicks.

To do a dolphin kick, stand in front of the mat, jump up and over the bar, arch your back, and kick you legs up. You should lower the bar to about 3'4", and if you have a bungee cord, use that instead of the bar so you don't have to keep readjusting it.

Hurdling the bar mostly strengthens your leg that you jump off of. Lower the bar to maybe about 3'4" (lower if you want) and stand as far away as your steps, but directly in front of it. The run and jump as if you were hurdling it, but use your jumping leg to push off. (The leg I push off for hurdles is different than the one I push off for high jump so if you hurdle too you might need to adjust or just not do this practice)

Scissor kicks also help your leg. Keep the bar at the same height as mentioned above but stand off to the side of the mat. Run and lift the leg closest to the mat up then push up with the other leg (which should be the leg you jump off of). When you are doing this, it is like you are pretending to be a giant pair of scissors. Also, try to land on your feet.

Oh, and a fourth drill you can do are jumps for height. It is kind of like a super mario jump. Push off with your jumping leg and raise the opposite arm, but keep it at a 90 degree angle. (Although when you really jump you will be lifting both arms).

The fourth drill is good because it is as if you are about to jump the actual bar, but there is nothing there at all. I personally think this is the best drill.

So for form, do bridges and try to get your body to arch that way when you jump the bar. Over time, you'll get used to it and you will be able to jump higher heights. Good luck!

You won't be able to successfully clear the bar on your first try, and it takes a lot of patience... Oh! I remembered another drill. Its called 'Cookie Training' lol. Okay, there should be more than 1 high jump bar, and maybe a bungee cord. But you need at least 2 bars or 1 bar and 1 bungee cord. Put the bungee on (if you don't have one just use a bar) and get one of the bars, a hair tie, a plastic bag, and a couple of cookies. (This is supposed to be done with a partner). Put a cookie in the bag, then tie it with the hair tie (or rubber band) and then tie that to one of the ends of the high jump pole. You get ready to jump and the person will hold the bar over the other bar/bungee (high enough that you don't crash into it) and you try to grab hold of the bag with the cookie :D Of course you can do this without cookies, or any other food..., but its always more fun to have a reward!

Um that was long... Anyways, the point of that cookie training is to help to arch your back over the bar and stretch upwards when you jump. It sounds stupid, but its fun and it does help :)

Thats just pretty much to get the form down, if you need any help on how the actual start begins, feel free to send me a message :)|||Hj can be difficult. It all comes down to your speed when you plant and how you lift up. Gte a dvd to help.

How do you do a high jump in HL2 deathmatch ? the only jump i know how to do is by pressing the space bar|||I think the jump is a bit nerfed in HL2 compared to, say, CS:S. In CS:S you do a "high jump" by holding crouch, then quickly pressing space while releasing the crouch simultaneously. I don't think that applies to HL2:DM, though.

How come cats can jump so high? Take the Serval or Caracal for example?

and is there any other animals that can jump higher than cats? and why cant humans jump high like cats?|||I'm not to sure but I do know that cats have flexible, cushion like joints and strong muscles in the hind leg.

Very good coordination is involved as well.|||Cats jump so high because they excercise a ton, basically all they do is eat, sleep, go to teh bathroom and excercise. So cats are healthy and they are natural jumpers-they have haunches for jumping and thats why there feet are so big for jumping and climbing, Also, cats have lots of muscles as in many different types of muscles in theres legs which also makes them natuurals at jumping. An example of an animal that can jump higher than the cat is the kangaroo I believe not exactly sure though... And humans can't jump like cats because we do not have the same muscles as cat do for jumping we have far less muscles in our legs and we just weren't built for jumping as high as a cat.|||Their legs are very strong due to how much they run, jump, hunt etc. God forbid the day cats start eating junk and sit on the comp all day long. Their muscles are spring-like too, they coil and release. I also thing the backward knee thing helps cats. We evolved more for balance then jumping.

What exersices will make you advavce your leaping ablity? How high will a jump and how long will it take!?

I am 5,1 i just want know how to Jump higher! Without ankle or any kinds of weights! And please tell me how much to do per day and how long will it take and how high will i be able to JUMP WITH THAT EXERSICE! Please don't ask why i want to jump higher ok!! Thanks

Please answer me please!|||http://www.criticalbench.com/increase-ve鈥?/a>

good luck.|||I can't tell you how long it will take but. If you can find a high area where you can tie a tether ball about 4 inches above a flat foot arm up reach. then jump up and swat it. then keep raising it an inch til you can't swat it. keep jumping til you swat it working at it maybe twice a day until you can. When you do swat it do it several days before raising it again.

See if you can find some big sponge stuff to land in and do i high bar jump first setting it low and as you get better raise the bar. Your school may have a set up like this for high bar event check with the school coach to see if you can use it

Is it possible to be too muscular to jump high?

I feel that my body since I bulked up that I can't jump as high as I used to. Simply for the fact that muscle weighs more than fat, and I believe the reason why I can't jump as high like years ago is because I put on some muscle and my body has a hard time lifting my weight off the ground. Possible? How do I solve this problem? You can't get rid of muscle.|||yes, if you trained for power/strength and not explosion.

Here is a video of a personal trainer, who has muscles, but trained for muscle explosion, helping him to have a vertical of over 50"

In the high jump, I take off with my left foot, so what side should I approach on?

I'm a freshman who has joined the indoor track team. However, my coach has not spent a lot of time teaching me the high jump, so I'm still struggling with it. Any other advice for high jumping would be appreciated, too.|||Ouch your a lefty.. that sucks.

I'm a lefty two but I do go off my right leg and somewhat pop my back to get over the bar... if you want to go off your left side I would go off your left foot but still pop back and land on your top of your shoulders.

Good luck :]

I do jumping too!

High, long, triple, pole, and the 4X1 :]|||On the left side|||If you start with your left foot then you should approach it with your left foot.|||There are different jumps and you can take off with either leg. The Western roll, you would approach from the left, and the flop you'd come in from the right.|||You want to jump off of your outside foot. (The foot further away from the mat.) If your jumping off your left foot, which has nothing to do with what hand you are dominant with by the way, then you should be approaching from the right side of the mat.|||A majority of jumpers take off on the left foot, so you are in good company. Facing the bar, you come from the right. Your approach should be a modified "J" and about 10 steps (but whatever makes you feel more comfortable). On the bottom of the "J" is your take off point and you should have a lean away from the bar. Hope that helps...

What's a good high jump score/height for a 17 year old girl?

I'm a 17 year old girl, I'm around 5'5. What would be an above average/good high jump score?! :) Thanks. I weigh around 120 pounds.|||That is a good height for a high school girl, if you can get another inch or two you should win most meets.

Most large meets are won at around 5'8" or less.

I have only seen a few girls who jumped higher in over 50 years of track.|||Over 9000

What muscles, if developed more, will improve my high jump?

I love high jump, I'm 169 cm tall and i jump 150 cm (~59 inches) what muscles are used mainly in high jump, and what is the best way to develop them? |||All your leg muscles are used. How high can a person jump?

Humanly possible, not the highest jump on record or any type of record.|||I think you'll find that the highest jump on record is currently how high a person can jump.

It's not like someone in the Olympics or other competition can jump a lot higher but somehow chooses not to.

There is no de facto difference between what is currently humanly possible and what has actually been achieved|||I think it is about 11 light-years. Because it is conceivable an astronaut could be on a space mission and then the mission becomes hopeless due to a space junk collision and the astronaut could decide the only thing to do is stand on the outside of the capsule and jump towards the stars. If the orbit is right the astronaut could go on for a very long time. Beyond 11 light years though the scenario starts to become unlikely. Also it may be that it is illegal to put an astronaut on a space mission when it's susceptible to space junk collisions, so the limit may be less for legally permissible jumping scenarios.|||The "highest jump on record" is actually the same thing as what is "humanly possible". I'm going to assume you mean is the amount of space in between the feet and the ground of an average person jumping straight up in the air if their legs are straight. The answer is 24 inches or 2 feet.|||Depends on the kind of jump. In the terms of track and field High Jump, the perfect jump will be that of you're own height. I am 5'10, so theoretically i should be able to have my entire body off the ground at 5'10 away from the ground. Sadly i can only jump 5'2 :(

What prevents your ability to jump high?

Im a basketball player with a fairly big vertical, I can dunk and all that...but I notice one day I can jump really high and dunk and the next day or two I do not come close to dunking. What's going on with my muscles or what not?|||This is common in everyone, for example do you think that runners of any distance are able to tie or set personal bests everyday. No on somedays they are faster than other days.

As for your jump, it could have been your condition prior to playing (maybe you were stressed, or maybe you didn't stretch enough), but more than likely your vert simply fluctuates between a certain range.

I guarantee that if you asked Usain Bolt to run the 100m everyday for the next one hundred days, at least one of those times would be over 10 secs.|||I would tend to agree with most of the other answers here. Your performance each day will not be the same. Your body will be more (or less) tired on some days than others. You will eat better some days than others (this can have a big effect). You will just be more "focused" on some days than others. Every day can't be the same. Even professional athletes do not perform the same every day.

Lebron James may score 50 points one night and 12 two nights later. Albert Pujols may hit three home runs one game and strike out three times the next night. That's just the way it is.

What you are looking for though is that the general trend of your vertical jump is improving. To ensure that this happens, you should be using a program that will help you improve. The site listed below has a lot of good information on how to jump higher. It also reviews the top vertical jump programs currently available and tells you which one is the best.|||Maybe you are not well stretched or warmed up. You can also use some ankle weights if you like.

And do a lot of vertical jumping! All of that will help!

I know will because I do it every day for practice for my high school, and it has improved my jumping very much!

How high above the volleyball net do you have to jump to spike?

Yeah i can put some of my hand above the volleyball but im not sure if i can spike if its my approach or its just cause i cant jump high enough to get it.|||you don't have to be that high above it. i'm 5'0 and can MAYBE get an inch above it and i can spike.

its all about where the setter sets the ball. usually for shorter people, you have to set it at least 4-5 feet off the net, and then start your approach at a really wide angle. other wise the hitter won't be able to get up high enough to hit it over the net and it will probably hit the top of the net and slid down. usually the shorter the person, the farther off the net the ball has to be set, depending on their height and vertical. i'm sure that applies with people that can't jump as high. also, when hitting from the left or right side, it helps to run and do your approach at an angle. start outside the court, probably a little past the where the ref stand is. make sure you get a good approach too because, as im sure you know, timing makes a world of difference.

i'd just spend some time with your setter trying different placements and angles. it might take a while, but if i can spike it, so can you.

trust me! this actually works.|||it doesnt really matter how high you can jump. but it certainly helps. if you are too short and dont jump high enough then obviously you arent going to be able to just slam it, but you will have to roll shot it over or hit from farther off the net. other problems, you might just not be reaching high enough when you swing (common problem)|||You don't have to jump higher than the net to spike. I have girls who can't jump that high but can still spike a **curved** kill against experienced adult players.|||Technically speaking, you don't have to jump. A lot of people will simply hit it up with their palms. Or you can float kill. Either or.

Float kill-

do approach, hit up but don't hit ultra hard. it will float over the blockers heads and drop in the hole.|||ok. well, you dont neccesarily have to be above the net to hit it. but it takes a great amount of skill to do that. maybe its your approach. the one i use is tested and true. start at the 10 ft. line. take a step with your left foot. then like your jumping over a big mud puddle, left right. you should land like your going to jump off a diving board. arms behind you, your knees bent. then, jump as high as you can, and if your a righty pretend your making a bow and arrow. pointat the ball with your left hand and bend your arm and point at your ear.then take your left hand down and smack the ball with your rigght. its a lot easier than it sounds.make sure you bend your wrist to make sure it doesnt go flying out of bounds.

good luck!!!!!!|||u dont have to even be that tall it helps u to hit it harder but

just practice having someone set u up and find ur best way of hitting it over GOOD LUCK|||to put more power on the ball you should jump at 1 to 3 feet, this way you can hit the top of the ball|||well... it all depends on how tall you are and how coordinated you are... you don't necessarily have to jump very high to spike the volleyball... if you don't feel like you're getting high enough over the net when you're jumping ... or if you feel like you are getting behind the ball then you need to work on the timing of your approach... if you are shorter... ask the setter to set the ball farther of the net so you have more of an opportunity of getting the ball in the court... this way you can hit the ball hard onto the court without really getting on top of it...|||its probably your approach..because as long as you jump..you can get it over..maybe your jumping too late..

remember

when the setter contacts the ball. take your approach,.

and try having ur hand up in the air already

that will give you a much better hit|||You don't have to be a great jumper. I don't have an astounding vertical , however I spike pretty well. For a hitter like me, it is all in the timing of my approach, which maximizes the jumping ability I have. Your setter also needs to learn your hitting stregnths as well so they can give you the correct set. So, while jumping high is a definite advantage, it is not a requirement.|||The people above are all wrong. The perfect way to spike a ball would be making sure that your wrist is above the net. Some professional volleyball players state that you need to have your arm (half of it ) aove the net. I say that all you need is to have your wrist above the net; then you just swipe down to get a good spike.(this also helps you curve the ball)|||There is not a certain height you need to jump to spike. As long as you hit it hard to the ground and get it over the net its a spike no matter how high you jump. Im super short but can still spike a hard ball without being able to hit the ball hard.|||Hi there,

Spiking the ball in volleyball is all technique. If your going to spike the ball with power, side step and go,

1) Right leg,

2) Left Leg,

3) Right leg,

4) Bend knees to get higher,

If you do this you will get height, easier to spike.

When your about to hit it, its all in the wrists

Remember, pratice makes perfect.

Good-luck .

P.S. Always remember safety.|||you dont have to really jump that high you just have to snap your wrist. what i learned at my club is.

1: high draw. this means to have your arms above your head in the position of a bow n arrow. if you are right handed you are gonna pull back your right arm as if you were pulling the string of the bow with your left arm fully extended. and when your timing is right switch you arms so that your right hand is contacting the ball (vise-versa if you are left-handed).

2:contact wrap. this means when you contact the ball you are going to get on top of the ball and snap your wrist. this will give the ball its top spin.

3: finish. this means you are going to ollow through after your contact (after you hit the ball, continue to bring your arm down til its slightly behind your back with you wrist still snapped.(this will get the ball to land in)

i'm a freshman and my vertical is 38''. That's about average for a 15yr old (i'm 5'5''.) last year, as an 8th grader my vertical was like 31''.

keep in mind that a vertical (how far your feet get off the ground) is different than someone mentioning what a player "jumps" (how high you can reach when you jump). I have no idea what i jump, and i'm too lazy to calculate it (adding my vertical, height, etc). A good high school player normally jumps somewhere around 9' %26amp; a good college player gets up above 10'.

hope that helps :]|||8.5 most likely. You might need a lot of practice to jump that high but, I think that 8.5 is a reasonable height to reach.|||totally depends on your height. You should aim to be in the 9' range by the time you get in high school. A good college player touches 10'-something.

What are some good drills, warm-ups, exercises and jumps for a high jump practice?

High jump?

okayy well, this is my first season of indoor track, but i have been running for a long time (cross country season). it was very hard for me to go from woods to track! but now that im used to it it alright! my coach automaticaly put me in distance, which was fine, but i wanted to try my had at different stuff!

so i tried hutles, but im short, so it was tough, plus im not much of a sprinter. then i REALLY wanted to try high jump, even though im short, i have a great body type for it! (skinny and no butt to worry about hitting the bar!) and i have been building my legs since i was five, YAY SOCCER! so jumping is okay!

but i really need some tips on getting a better jump, and arching my back, and kicking my legs back! i really need FORM form form! i cant stress that enough! im really into it, and my caoch, who didnt quite want me to do it in the first place said he could really see me being our schools next great jumper! so i wanna live up to that!

any help would be GREAT! thanks!|||Jumping is really something you need a coach to be around for. There are lots of books on coaching jumps, and it wouldn't hurt for you to read them, but it greatly helps if your coach knows the event or is willing to put the time into to learn it.

If your coach cannot, try to find a volunteer, maybe a parent or older sibling to help you learn the event and come to your pracices with you to watch and help you with your form.|||The best thing you can do to be a great high jumper is to be explosive. High jump?

if im a freshmen i high school how high do i need to be able to jump to make the team|||I see middle schoolers doing 5' 2" and 5'4", sometimes 5'6". You do the math. Even if they pick up a couple inches, they still shouldn't be able to compete with seniors as freshman unless they're close to 6'0", I would think. So 5'10" might be a cutoff, but it all depends how many decent jumpers the school has, too.

High Jump??

Today we were doing high jump at school and people say that I jump weird. Their not being mean, but they say that I should land on my back and not with two feet on the mat. I just do a scissor kick and I take off with one foot. Am I jumping ok, or do I need to change something?? Thanks for any advice:D|||Depends on whether you are trying to high jump for competition or just having fun.

It is a natural motion to do the scissors.

Jumping by turning your back to the pit and going over the bar then landing on your back is something you have to train for to learn.

It is much more efficient and you can jump much higher.

If you are serious and want to jump higher have someone teach you, but if you are just playing around for gym class then don't worry about what anyone says, just enjoy yourself.

In the ring, I'll jump up to 4'3", mostly 3'6" and 4'. My trainer's view on it is "to go a lot higher and more difficult than what you'll see in the show ring - that way it should be ridiculously easy!" I started jumping 3' at 13ish, and 4'+ at 15 years old, being 16 now.|||I jump about 3'6/3'7 showjumping for about 6mnths now. I don't ride in hunter disipline though. I started jumping 2ft when I was 9 1/2(after just 5 lessons in total!!! =O) And at shows it's 3'6" and under.

There are lots of things you can do to improve your jumping ability. Lift weights, do plyometirc exercises and practice the technique.

If you do not have a coach you can buy some videos on plyometrics and high jump technique.

Look at www.mfathletic.com or www.trackandfieldnews.com|||There are various ways to increase your jump.

The most common way is to purchase a vertical jump program.

Air Alert 4 is the latest version of Air Alert but it still involves the same system of increasing repetitions that results to over-training and eventually injuries.

Personally, I think you should get either one of the following programs:

The Vertical Jump Developmental Bible by Kelly Baggett

The Vertical Project by Luke Lowrey

Athletic Advantage

Jump Experts

These four programs have topped most of the sites that have reviewed various vertical jump programs.

Some of the sites that you can check the reviews are:

http://www.vertjump.com/

http://www.vertcoach.com

http://www.e-reviewers.com/vertical.htm

http://www.higher-jump.com/

There are other sites offering reviews but these four sites have specific criteria in rating the programs, including the prices of the programs and average inches gained when using them.

The Vertical Project usually ranks the highest when you rate the programs when it comes to results. However, be prepared to shell out nearly 300USD for the program and to train for 6 days out of seven to get the results that they claim.

The Vertical Jump Bible sells for 40USD and has been proven very effective as well.

The other two programs have also had significant success so you can entertain which of the four you are getting.

I also suggest that you stay clear of Air Alert and other free jump programs that involve too much repetition, you might manage to get a few inches but since your muscles will be used to the same exercises, subsequent gains will be to a minimum plus you have increase chances of injury.

Check the opinions of people who have used Air Alert and you will see that there a lot of people who have gained and yet, there are also a lot of people who are mad and have regretted doing the program.

I also suggest that you do not use ankle weights if you are doing a program since using them will lead to knee injuries.

If you also want to use other training aids, you can check out Strength Shoes or Jump Soles. The review sites I stated above also feature other training aids so you can check out the more in-depth reviews there.
